List Of Vehicles That Wont Get You A Challan If You Drive Them Even Without A Driving License

List of vehicles that won’t get you a challan if you drive them even without a driving license

If you ride a bike or drive a car on roads, without a driver's license you run the risk of receiving a traffic ticket from the authorities. This usually involves paying a fine, which could increase if you get into an argument with the officer. Generally having a driver's license is mandatory for motor vehicles although there are exceptions for electric vehicles (EVs) that allow you to operate them without one.

Ticket for Driving Without a License

If you are caught driving without a license and confronted by law enforcement you may face fines of up to Rs. 5,000. Engaging in arguments with the officer could also result in charges of obstructing duties escalating the situation further. To avoid penalties it's advisable to possess a driver's license or opt for a vehicle that doesn't necessitate one.

Electric Vehicles Exempt from Licensing Requirements

As per regulations established by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) electric vehicles with speeds of 25 km per hour are exempt from requiring driver's licenses or registration. These smaller EVs are typically designed for city use and short commutes. Moreover, they do not need number plates or registration, with the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

Examples of Electric Vehicles That Don't Require a License

In India, there are several two-wheelers with engine capacities below 50cc and top speeds not exceeding 25 km/h that do not require a driving license. Here are some examples:

Hero Electric Dash: This electric scooter has a top speed of 25 km/h, and on a full charge, it can travel up to 60 km. It comes in a vibrant red color and is priced at Rs. 64,990.

Okinawa R30: This is the cheapest scooter from Okinawa, starting at ₹61,998. It has a top speed of 25 km/h and comes with various color options.

Hero Electric Flash LX: Priced at Rs. 54,640, this scooter has a top speed of 25 km/h and can travel 85 km on a full charge. It takes about 4 to 5 hours to fully charge the battery.

Important Considerations

While these vehicles do not require a driving license, it's crucial to adhere to traffic rules and safety measures to avoid accidents. Although they have limited speed, they still share the road with other vehicles, which can be risky. It's also advisable to check local regulations, as rules may vary across states or cities. If you choose to purchase an electric vehicle, ensure it meets the criteria for driving without a license to avoid legal issues and fines.
