Ducati Panigale V2 Superquadro Final Edition A Tribute To An Iconic Engine

Ducati Panigale V2 Superquadro Final Edition: A Tribute to an Iconic Engine

Ducati, an Italian motorcycle company has finally unveiled its special edition motorcycle, the Panigale V2 Superquadro Final Edition. Reportedly this special edition motorcycle will be produced in a limited series with around 555 units in total. The company claims that this motorcycle is supposedly a tribute to the Superquadro engine. Read further below for the details:

A Historical Overview

The Panigale V2 Superquadro Final Edition celebrates the end of an era for Ducati's Superquadro engines. These engines have been integral to Ducati's success, powering iconic models like the 748, 749, 848, 899, and 959. The journey of the Superquadro engine began in 2011 with the 1199 Panigale. The name "Superquadro" comes from the high ratio between bore and stroke, which allows the engine to deliver exceptional power for a twin-cylinder. Over the years, Ducati developed various versions of this engine, including the 898 cc and the 955 cc variants. The latter has achieved notable success, winning the Supersport World title in 2023 with rider Nicolò Bulega and the MotoAmerica Supersport title in 2022 and 2023.

Technical Excellence

The Superquadro engine is renowned for its technical sophistication. The crankcases are made using Vacural® casting, which involves aluminum cylinder liners coated with NikaSil, enhancing durability and efficiency. The engine features magnesium covers for the head, clutch, and oil pan, contributing to its compact and rigid design. The desmodromic valve system, a hallmark of Ducati engines, employs "super-finished" rocker arms with DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating to reduce friction and improve durability. The engine's mixed chain and gear control system set new standards for efficiency and reliability.

Performance and Design

The Panigale V2 Superquadro Final Edition features the 955 cc version of the Superquadro engine, delivering 155 horsepower at 10,750 rpm and 104 Nm of torque at 9,000 rpm. This makes it both a powerful and responsive bike, suitable for both road and track use.

The bike's design is a tribute to the Superquadro engine, with a livery created by Drudi Performance in collaboration with the Centro Stile Ducati. The colors—white, red, black, and grey—are characteristic of Ducati's style. The upper half cowl features a curved shield that aligns with the bike's shape, and the numberplate underneath follows its outline. The fairing displays a technical drawing of the engine, subtly integrated with grey tones. The matte grey fuel tank contrasts sharply with the colorful fairing, giving the bike a modern and striking appearance. The seat is embroidered, adding a touch of elegance to its sporty design.

Safety and Technology

The Panigale V2 Superquadro Final Edition is equipped with advanced electronic features to ensure safety and control. These include the 6-axis inertial platform, ABS Cornering EVO, Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EVO 2, Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) EVO, Ducati Quick Shift up/down (DQS) EVO 2, and Engine Brake Control (EBC) EVO. These systems work together to optimize stability and performance, especially during extreme cornering conditions.

In conclusion, The Panigale V2 Superquadro Final Edition is more than just a motorcycle; it is a tribute to Ducati's engineering excellence and a celebration of the Superquadro engine's legacy. With only 555 units available, this limited edition bike is a collector's item that represents the pinnacle of Ducati's twin-cylinder technology. Available in October, each bike comes with a certificate of authenticity and a motorcycle cover, making it a must-have for Ducati enthusiasts and collectors alike.
