In Bihar, it has become mandatory for vehicle owners to keep their mobile numbers and addresses linked and updated with their driving licenses and vehicle registrations. Failing to do so can result in fines and the suspension of your vehicle registration and driving license. The Transport Department has issued directives to all District Transport Officers (DTOs) to enforce this requirement.
Action Under the Motor Vehicles Act
Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agrawal has announced that vehicle owners have one month to update their mobile numbers linked to their vehicle registration and driving license. If the data is not updated on the Vahan and Sarathi portals within this timeframe, action will be taken against the vehicle owner or driver. Drivers must update the mobile number linked to their Aadhaar on the transport service portal. Without this update, the pollution certificate for the vehicle cannot be issued. If there is a change of address, it must be reported to the competent authority within 30 days. This rule is implemented under Section 49 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Non-compliance will lead to action as per the regulations.
Update Driving License on Transport Website
According to the Transport Department, many vehicle owners' registered mobile numbers and addresses linked to their driving licenses and vehicle registrations are no longer in use. This can create problems in identifying the vehicle owner or driver in case of accidents or other incidents. Additionally, if the mobile number linked to the vehicle registration is not updated, notifications regarding e-challans for traffic violations will not be received. The facility to update the mobile number is available online from home. The mobile number registered in the vehicle registration can be updated on the transport website (parivahan.gov.in), and the number registered in the driving license can be updated on the Sarathi portal (sarathi.parivahan.gov.in).
Helpdesk Number Issued by the Department
For any assistance related to updating the mobile number or for further information, the Transport Department has issued a helpdesk number. You can call the helpdesk at 06122547212 during office hours to get the necessary information.
By following these steps and keeping your details updated, you can avoid fines and ensure your driving license and vehicle registration remain valid. Stay compliant and drive safely!
