Byd Emax7 Vs Toyota Innova Hycross Battle Of The Premium People Carriers

BYD eMax7 Vs Toyota Innova Hycross: Battle of the Premium People Carriers

In the world of premium people carriers, the Toyota Innova Hycross has long been the undisputed champion. However, with the arrival of the BYD eMax7, a formidable contender has entered the ring. This comparison delves into how these two models stack up against each other, evaluating design, features, powertrains, and pricing.

Design Highlights

Toyota Innova Hycross: The latest iteration of the Innova adopts an SUV-like stance, evident from its profile. This design shift aims to appeal to the current market trend favoring SUVs.

BYD eMax7: In contrast, the eMax7 embraces a traditional MPV design, which sets it apart in a sea of SUV-inspired vehicles. The distinct look emphasizes its purpose as a people carrier, maintaining the classic MPV aesthetic.

Both vehicles showcase unique design elements, including front facades, wheel styles, and tail lamp configurations. While the Innova's SUV styling aligns with contemporary preferences, the eMax7’s commitment to MPV design might help it stand out in a crowded market.

Feature List

When it comes to features, both the eMax7 and Innova Hycross present impressive offerings:

Common Features:

  • Dual digital screens

  • Powered driver’s seat with memory function

  • Wireless phone mirroring

  • Full LED lighting package

  • Level-2 ADAS

  • Powered tailgate

Differentiating Features: The eMax7 is available in both six-seat and seven-seat configurations, whereas the top-spec Hycross is limited to a six-seat option but offers a more luxurious rear-seat experience. Notable features in the Hycross include:

  • Ottoman function

  • Boss package

  • Tray tables

In terms of safety, both models come equipped with:

  • Six airbags

  • ABS with EBD

  • Traction control

  • Three-point seat belts

  • ISOFIX child seat mounting points

  • 360-degree camera

  • Rear cross-traffic alert

Powertrains

The powertrains represent the most significant difference between the two models:

Toyota Innova Hycross: Powered by a 2.0-litre petrol-hybrid engine combined with an electric motor, producing a total output of 188bhp and 206Nm of torque. The eCVT connects the engine to the front wheels, offering a claimed range of 1208 km.

BYD eMax7: Features a 150kWh battery pack, producing 201bhp and 310Nm of torque from a single electric motor driving the front wheels. The eMax7 offers a claimed range of 530 km on a full charge.

While the Hycross might have the edge in range, the eMax7's lower running costs could make it more appealing in the long run, particularly for luxury fleet operations, a key market for BYD.

Pricing

  • Toyota Innova Hycross: Priced at Rs 30.98 lakh for the top-spec variant.

  • BYD eMax7: Available at a competitive price of Rs 29.90 lakh.

Both the Toyota Innova Hycross and the BYD eMax7 offer compelling packages for premium people carriers. While the Innova Hycross boasts a better rear-seat experience and greater range, the eMax7 shines with its lower acquisition costs, versatility in seating configurations, and potentially reduced running costs. Ultimately, the choice between the two will depend on individual preferences and priorities, whether they lean towards established legacy models or emerging electric alternatives.
