BMW India Posts Record H1 2026 Sales, EVs Surge

BMW India recorded its best-ever first-half performance in 2026, with total sales climbing 17 percent year on year. Electric vehicles played a starring role in this growth, alongside a strong showing from long-wheelbase models and sister brand Mini, as the German luxury carmaker continues to widen its footprint across the country.

  • BMW India delivered its highest-ever first-half sales in 2026, with electric vehicles forming a quarter of the total.

  • Long-wheelbase models and sister brand Mini both recorded strong double-digit growth during the period.

BMW has closed the first half of 2026 on a high note in India, delivering 9,075 cars between January and June. This marks the German carmaker's best-ever H1 performance in the country and reflects a growth of 17 percent over the same period last year.

A large part of this momentum came from the brand's electric line-up, which continues to find favour among Indian luxury buyers.

BMW India EV Sales Rose Sharply in H1 2026

Electric models made up a quarter of total deliveries

Of the 9,075 units BMW sold in the first six months of the year, 2,359 were electric vehicles, translating to a robust 78 percent jump over the year-ago period. The company has pointed out that roughly one in every four BMWs sold during this window was an EV, a figure that underlines how quickly electrification is taking hold at the premium end of the Indian car market.

Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO of BMW Group India, credited the brand's growing electric portfolio for cementing its position as the top choice among luxury EV buyers in the country, adding that the company expects this momentum to carry through the rest of the year.

Long-Wheelbase Cars Continue to Drive Volumes

LWB models accounted for over half of all sales

Long-wheelbase versions of BMW's line-up proved to be the single biggest contributor to overall sales, accounting for 4,428 units and a striking 52 percent share of the total. This segment grew by 24 percent year on year. These cars, originally developed with the Chinese market in mind, have found an enthusiastic audience among Indian buyers who value extra rear legroom, particularly those who prefer being driven rather than driving themselves.

The LWB range currently spans the iX1 electric SUV along with the 5 Series and 3 Series sedans, and the upcoming next-generation X5 is also set to arrive in this configuration. All these models are assembled locally, which helps keep duties, and therefore prices, lower than fully imported alternatives. The iX1 LWB, priced from Rs 51.40 lakh ex-showroom, remains the most accessible model in this line-up.

Mini Brand Also Recorded Strong Growth in India

Sales rose over 70 percent for the smaller marque

BMW-owned Mini also had a strong first half, with sales rising over 70 percent year on year to reach 504 units. The Countryman SUV emerged as the brand's best-selling model, with its recently introduced C trim already generating healthy demand. The Cooper Convertible and its hatchback sibling followed closely behind.

Several limited editions launched through the year, including the Cooper S Victory and GP Inspired variants along with the Cooper S Convertible with the JCW Pack, have already sold out.

Combined, BMW and Mini SUVs contributed 5,926 units, growing by 35 percent over the previous year.

More Launches Planned for the Rest of 2026

BMW had earlier announced plans to introduce six new models, four facelifts, and 17 product updates through 2026. So far, the brand has rolled out the X3 xDrive30, M2 CS, M440i Convertible, and X6 M60i.

Beyond new products, BMW Group India also intends to expand its retail presence into 10 additional cities this year as demand for luxury vehicles spreads beyond the major metros.
