The government also came out with the annual FASTag pass at Rs 3,000, where a user can cross up to 200 toll plazas without any deduction in a year. Although this sounds like a simple, problem-free fix, several drivers are finding out their FASTag funds continue to dwindle.
Here is a rundown of the reasons this occurs and how to counteract it.
Limited Validity- Applies Only to NHAI Highways
FASTag is valid only on the highways, expressways, and roads controlled by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Central Government. It does not extend to the state highway, the state government tolls and the individual toll roads. Even in case you travel such distances, the charge will still be charged to your FASTag balance. Therefore, there is a need to have an extra balance.
How to Check the Eligible Toll Plazas?
To prevent misunderstanding, the users can refer to the areas where the annual FASTag would operate.
On downloading the RajmargYatra app, drivers can go to the Annual Toll Pass → Manage Pass → Eligible Toll Plazas section. There is a map depicting where the pass can be used and the list of toll plazas, there can be no confusion about it before traveling.
Common Mistakes That Lead to Deductions
Improper Affixing: If the FASTag is placed incorrectly, scanners may fail to read it, resulting in balance deductions.
Damaged Tags: Tags exposed to sunlight, scratches, or dust may malfunction, requiring replacement.
System Errors: Sometimes, due to server issues at toll plazas, money may still be deducted despite having an active annual plan.
What to Do in Case of Wrong Deductions
In case of wrong deduction of your balance, you can make a complaint by calling the NHAI helpline 1033 or emailing [email protected] with transaction details to receive a refund.
