Volvo XC90 Facelift Set to Launch Soon with Updated Design & Features

The refreshed Volvo XC90 brings subtle design tweaks, new tech features, and a hybrid powertrain. Expected to launch soon, it aims to strengthen Volvo’s presence in the luxury SUV segment.

Volvo XC90 Facelift: What to Expect from the Updated Luxury SUV

Volvo is gearing up to introduce the facelifted XC90, a refreshed version of its flagship luxury SUV.

Originally unveiled in September last year for global markets, the updated XC90 is now set to make its way to India soon. The facelift brings subtle exterior enhancements, an upgraded interior with new technology, and a refined powertrain lineup.

Let’s take a closer look at what the new Volvo XC90 has to offer.

Refreshed Exterior Design

While the overall silhouette remains unchanged, Volvo has introduced a few key cosmetic updates to align the XC90’s design with the newer EX90 electric SUV.

The most noticeable changes include:

  • A revised front grille with a more modern and sleek design

  • Updated LED headlights featuring Volvo’s signature T-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs)

  • A new air dam design, adding to the SUV’s premium look

On the sides and rear, Volvo has opted for a minimal approach, retaining the classic XC90 stance. However, new alloy wheel designs and subtle tweaks to the taillights could be introduced to enhance the overall aesthetics.

Interior Upgrades & New Tech Features

Inside the cabin, the XC90 facelift gets a larger touchscreen infotainment system, which is expected to run Volvo’s latest Android-based software for a more seamless user experience.

The layout remains largely similar to the outgoing model but includes:

  • Improved ergonomics for better cabin comfort

  • Additional storage space in the center console

  • New upholstery options for a more premium feel

  • Frequency Selective Damping technology, which could enhance ride quality

With these updates, Volvo aims to provide better practicality and comfort, making long journeys even more enjoyable for passengers.

Powertrain Options – Mild Hybrid & PHEV

Under the hood, the facelifted Volvo XC90 will carry forward the same 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. However, buyers will get two different options:

  • 48V Mild-Hybrid (MHEV) – Offers improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions

  • Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) – More exciting, featuring an 18.8kWh battery pack that delivers an EV-only range of 70km

While the mild-hybrid variant is expected to be the more accessible option, the PHEV version will appeal to buyers looking for better fuel economy and electric-only driving capabilities.

Expected Launch & Competition

Volvo has not yet confirmed an exact launch date, but with the model already unveiled globally, we can expect the XC90 facelift to arrive in India soon. When launched, it will continue to compete with luxury SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, Audi Q7, and Range Rover Velar.

Conclusion

With its refreshed design, enhanced technology, and hybrid powertrain options, the Volvo XC90 facelift aims to maintain its position as one of the most luxurious and feature-rich SUVs in the segment. It retains Volvo’s signature safety features, a comfortable cabin, and a reputation for being a reliable and premium offering.

As we wait for Volvo to officially announce pricing and variant details, it will be interesting to see how the facelifted XC90 is positioned in the Indian market. Stay tuned for more updates on this upcoming luxury SUV!
