Volkswagen introduced the new Tayron SUV at the Beijing Auto Show 2024, which will be known as the Tiguan L Pro in the local market. The Tayron is essentially the long-wheelbase variant of the new Tiguan that was first unveiled the previous year.
Design and Dimensions
The Tayron closely resembles the European Tiguan in terms of design, with the main distinction being its elongated appearance. Measuring at 4,735 mm in length, the Tayron is nearly 200 mm longer than the standard Tiguan. It also stands slightly taller at 1,682 mm compared to the European version at 1,660 mm.

Interior Features
The interior of the Tayron mirrors that of the new-generation Tiguan, featuring a prominent 15-inch central touchscreen and digital instrument cluster. Additionally, the Tayron introduces a third 11.6-inch infotainment display for the co-driver. It remains to be confirmed whether this feature will be a standard or an optional offering in global markets. The Tayron is equipped with advanced technology such as VW's IQ Lights (adaptive LED headlamps) and IQ Pilot advanced driver aids.
Seating and Market Variants
In the Chinese market, the Tayron will offer a five-seat configuration. However, it is anticipated that in other markets, it may also be available with a third row of seats, similar to the now-discontinued Tiguan Allspace.
Powertrain and Performance
Under the hood, the Tayron will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine generating 217 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. With a top speed of 200 kmph, the SUV will come with an option for all-wheel drive.
Market Competition and Global Expansion
In the global market, the Volkswagen Tayron will compete against rivals such as the Skoda Kodiaq. There is potential for an India launch in the future, given VW's history of offering models like the Tiguan Allspace in the Indian market.
