Toyota Vellfire Achieves 4 Star Rating In Jncap Crash Tests

Toyota Vellfire Achieves 4-Star Rating in JNCAP Crash Tests

The latest version of the Toyota Vellfire has earned a notable 4-star rating from the Japan New Car Assessment Programme (JNCAP). Launched in India in August 2023, the Vellfire is constructed on Toyota's TNGA platform (GA-K), offering advanced safety features and robust performance. The 4-star rating underscores the vehicle's strong safety performance, with an impressive score of 93 per cent (181.79 out of 197 points) in the assessment.

JNCAP evaluates vehicles across three key parameters, beginning with the Preventive Safety Performance assessment. This segment includes rigorous tests such as full-frontal collision and offset frontal collision evaluations, where the Vellfire secured an impressive 88.84 out of 89 points. Additionally, the collision safety performance evaluation, covering side and rear-end collision protection, contributed to Vellfire's strong overall score, with 84.93 out of 100 points.

In terms of pedestrian protection, the Vellfire showcased a mixed performance. While it attained 2.46 out of 4 points for pedestrian head protection, it excelled in pedestrian leg protection, achieving a full score of 4 out of 4. Moreover, the passenger seat belt reminder system was evaluated, with the Vellfire scoring 2.80 out of 3.6 points.

It's essential to note that JNCAP focuses solely on vehicles available in the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM), unlike other assessment programs such as the Global NCAP (GNCAP), which concentrates on emerging markets. Each New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) follows distinct protocols for conducting crash tests and awarding scores, resulting in varying outcomes.

Under the hood, the Vellfire boasts a robust powertrain, comprising a 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder DOHC engine, an electric motor, and a hybrid battery. This configuration delivers a maximum power output of 190 bhp and a torque of 240 Nm, ensuring a dynamic driving experience. The new Vellfire is priced from Rs 1.20 crore (ex-showroom) onwards in India, offering customers a blend of safety, performance, and sophistication.
