Top 5 Best Selling Cars In August 2024 Maruti Brezza Dominates The Suv Market

Top 5 Best-Selling Cars in August 2024: Maruti Brezza Dominates the SUV Market

August 2024 witnessed significant shifts in the Indian automobile market as top players battled a challenging landscape. Despite the overall slowdown in the auto industry, with Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai experiencing year-on-year (YoY) declines of 8%, and Tata Motors a 3% dip, some models showed resilience. August brought a mix of performance with month-on-month (MoM) growth for certain brands, showcasing the unpredictability and dynamism of the market.

Let's dive into the details of the top five best-selling cars in August 2024 and how they fared against their previous performances.

1. Maruti Suzuki Brezza

Taking the top spot in August 2024, Maruti Suzuki Brezza solidified its dominance in the compact SUV segment. With 19,190 units sold, the Brezza saw a significant YoY growth of 32%, far surpassing its 14,572 units in August 2023. This surge indicates a strong consumer preference for Maruti's popular compact SUV.

On a MoM basis, the Brezza showed a sharp increase, selling 4,514 more units compared to July 2024. The SUV continues to capitalize on its winning formula of affordability, reliability, and a robust feature set, which resonates well with urban and rural buyers alike. The Brezza's refreshed design and added features have only fueled its popularity further.

2. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The second spot was claimed by another Maruti Suzuki model, the Ertiga, India's most successful Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV). The Ertiga registered a remarkable 51% YoY growth, selling 18,580 units in August 2024, compared to 12,315 units in August 2023.

In terms of MoM performance, the Ertiga showed consistency, selling 2,879 more units than in July 2024. The demand for spacious, family-oriented vehicles like the Ertiga remains strong, and the model’s success is a testament to Maruti’s strategic pricing and feature enhancements.

3. Hyundai Creta

The Hyundai Creta, a favorite in the midsize SUV segment, claimed the third spot in August 2024. With 16,762 units sold, the Creta saw a 21% YoY growth from 13,832 units in August 2023. However, it faced a slight dip in MoM performance, selling 588 fewer units compared to July 2024.

Despite the minor MoM decline, the Creta remains a strong contender in the midsize SUV market, known for its premium features, robust engine options, and consistent performance. Hyundai's focus on maintaining the Creta’s competitive edge has clearly paid off, securing its place among the top sellers.

4. Maruti Suzuki WagonR - 16,450 Units Sold

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR continues to be a strong performer, though it’s the last remaining hatchback in the top five. With 16,450 units sold in August 2024, the WagonR posted a modest 6% YoY growth from 15,578 units in August 2023. However, it saw a slight dip in sales compared to July 2024, where it sold 16,191 units.

The WagonR has consistently been a go-to choice for budget-conscious buyers seeking practicality, reliability, and low maintenance costs. Its continued presence in the top five despite the growing popularity of SUVs speaks to its enduring appeal in the Indian market.

5. Tata Punch

Rounding out the top five is Tata’s popular sub-compact SUV, the Punch. In August 2024, the Punch sold 15,643 units, marking an 8% YoY growth from 14,523 units in August 2023. However, similar to the WagonR, the Punch experienced a dip in MoM performance, selling 478 fewer units compared to July 2024.

The Tata Punch has been a game-changer in the sub-compact SUV segment, offering rugged looks, ample ground clearance, and Tata’s signature safety features. While it faced a slight dip in sales, it remains a strong contender in its category, appealing to buyers looking for a compact, city-friendly SUV with off-road capabilities.

Conclusion

August 2024 highlighted the shifting dynamics in the Indian auto market, with SUVs continuing to dominate the sales charts. Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai led the pack with strong performances from their flagship models, while Tata Motors held its ground with the Punch. The month also reaffirmed the growing preference for SUVs among Indian consumers, as three out of the top five best-sellers were from this segment.

With festive season demand on the horizon, it will be interesting to see how these models continue to perform and if they can maintain their top positions in the coming months.
