In July 2025, Tesla at last became a household name in India, with the first showroom, offering the Model Y at a base price of Rs. 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). In the recent weeks, only weeks since its launch, the company has attested that more than 600 Indian customers have already placed bookings for the electric crossover.
Deliveries to Begin Soon
Though deliveries to customers have not been initiated yet, Tesla has predicted that deliveries should be in the coming weeks. The high reservations reflect the mainstream attention to the Tesla entrance, particularly in the context of the brand being advanced in terms of EV technology and popular among people all over the world.
Impressive Range: The Two Battery Options
Bought in as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) unit, the Tesla Model Y is available in two battery pack options, consisting of a 60kWh battery pack and a bigger 75kWh battery pack. The Model Y has a suggested range of up to 622km on a single charge, depending on variant, which puts its range among the longest EVs in India to date.
Premium EV Segment
Starting at slightly less than Rs. 60 lakh, the Model Y is in competition with a list of such cars as the BMW iX1, the Volvo XC40 Recharge, and the Mercedes-Benz EQB. Tesla's competitive advantage is its wide scope, low-tech sleek cabin and the power of its international brand.
The Implication to the EV Market of India
The initial success of the Model Y is an indication of high chances of Tesla in India which is in a fast transition to electric mobility. As effective infrastructure continues to increase and new taxes encourage EVs due to new tax reforms, Tesla could stimulate competition and EV uptake within high end EV markets.
