The 2024 F1 season is being held in Japan, called Japan Grand Prix and the heat is on. Following the schedules and victories, Max Verstappen won the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday, marking his third win from four races this season paving a lucid path for his lead in the World Championship.
Verstappen finished the race in 12.535 seconds ahead of teammate Sergio Perez and 17.796 seconds ahead of Ferrari's Carlos Sainz. After retiring from the Australian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen made an incredible comeback at Suzuka, leading Red Bull to yet another dominant 1-2 sweep. Carlos Sainz of Ferrari finished ahead of both Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc to take the last podium spot.
Verstappen showed off his skill and mastery by leading the race from start to finish while starting from pole position. He stated, “The crucial part was the beginning, to stay ahead". The automobile kept getting better after that. Everything went off without a hitch. Nothing could have made it better." Verstappen's victory extends his lead in the World Championship to 177 points, with 180 points still up for grabs in the remaining six races. With three sprint races offering an extra eight points each, Verstappen only needs to ensure that Perez does not outscore him by more than five points in the sprint race to secure the title.
Red Bull's one-two finish with Verstappen and Perez highlights the team's strong performance this season. Perez, who failed to finish at Suzuka last year, picked up his third runner-up finish of the season. While, Japan's Yuki Tsunoda scored points at his home Grand Prix for the first time, finishing 10th for Red Bull.
The championship resumes in a fortnight with the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai, the first time the event has been held since 2019. The Japan race was held in April and shifted forward from its usual late-season slot. The round will also host the first of six sprint races this season.
