Maruti Swift Is Already The Best Selling Selling Car In India

Maruti Swift is already the best-selling-selling car in India

The sales report for the top 15 best-selling cars in India for May 2024 is out, revealing interesting shifts in the market. The Maruti Swift has claimed the top spot, outpacing competitors like the Tata Punch, Maruti Dzire, and Hyundai Creta. The latest-generation Swift played a significant role in boosting its sales figures. Additionally, the facelifted version of the Mahindra XUV 3OO also saw a surge in demand with the beginning of its deliveries in May. Let’s dive into how each model performed last month.

Maruti Swift tops the list

The Maruti Swift emerged as the best-selling car in May 2024, with an impressive 19,393 units sold. This represents a substantial increase from April 2024, when only 4,094 units were sold, indicating the strong appeal of the new model. The Swift has shown consistent growth compared to May 2023, when 17,346 units were sold.

Tata Punch fell to second

Coming in second, the Tata Punch sold 18,949 units in May 2024. This is a slight decrease from April 2024's 19,158 units but a significant jump from May 2023, which saw 11,124 units sold. The sales figures include both the internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) variants of the Punch, showcasing its popularity across different powertrains.

Maruti Dzire Takes Third Place

The Maruti Dzire secured the third position with 16,061 units sold in May 2024. This is a small increase from April 2024's 15,825 units and a notable rise from the 11,315 units sold in May 2023. The Dzire has maintained a steady demand, indicating its strong market presence.

Hyundai Creta: Consistent Performer

Hyundai Creta's sales dipped slightly in May 2024, with 14,662 units sold compared to April 2024's 15,447 units. However, the year-on-year (YoY) sales remained stable, with 14,449 units sold in May 2023. Despite a slight monthly decline, the Creta continues to be a popular choice among buyers.

Maruti Wagon R Falls to Fifth

The Maruti Wagon R dropped to the fifth spot with 14,492 units sold in May 2024. This is a decrease from both April 2024's 17,850 units and May 2023's 16,258 units, marking a decline in both month-on-month (MoM) and YoY sales.

Maruti Brezza Slips in Rankings

The Maruti Brezza also saw a drop in its rankings, falling to the sixth spot with 14,186 units sold in May 2024. This is down from April 2024's 17,113 units, indicating a 17% decrease in monthly sales.

Maruti Ertiga and Eeco are The MPV Representatives

The Maruti Ertiga and Eeco are the only multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) on the top 15 list. The Ertiga sold 13,893 units in May 2024, up from 10,528 in May 2023. The Eeco attracted 10,960 buyers, a slight decrease from April 2024's 12,060 units but consistent with its YoY performance.

Mahindra Scorpio witnesses a Strong Yearly Growth

The Mahindra Scorpio sold 13,717 units in May 2024, a decrease from April 2024's 14,807 units. However, this represents a significant YoY growth from May 2023's 9,318 units. The figures include sales for both the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic models.

Maruti Baleno is the only Premium Hatchback on the list

The Maruti Baleno, the only premium hatchback on the list, sold 12,842 units in May 2024. This is down from both April 2024's 14,049 units and May 2023's 18,733 units, indicating a decline in sales.

Maruti Fronx shows a Steady Growth

Tata Nexon Sees Consistency but Declining

Mahindra XUV 3OO Witnesses a Surge in Demand

Maruti Grand Vitara Sees Growth in Sales

The Maruti Grand Vitara sold 9,736 units in May 2024, up from both April 2024's 7,651 units and May 2023's 8,877 units, showing a steady growth in its sales performance.

Hyundai Venue becomes a Stable Performer

The Hyundai Venue sold 9,327 units in May 2024, slightly up from April 2024's 9,120 units but down from May 2023's 10,213 units. The sales include both the standard Venue and the sportier N Line variant.

Conclusion

In summary, the May 2024 car sales report highlights the dominance of Maruti models in the Indian market, with Swift taking the lead. The Tata Punch and Maruti Dzire also performed strongly, while introducing new models and facelifts significantly impacted sales figures for several cars, such as the Mahindra XUV 3OO. Despite some declines in monthly sales for certain models, overall growth trends remain positive for many key players in the market.
