Maruti Suzuki Dzire Crosses 3 Million Sales in India, Remains Top-Selling Car of 2025

Seventeen years after first hitting Indian roads, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has done something few cars anywhere in the world manage to pull off. It has sold three million units in a single market. And it did not get there by accident. From its roots as an affordable family sedan to its current fourth-generation form, the Dzire has steadily earned the loyalty of Indian buyers in a way that very few nameplates can claim.

  • Maruti Suzuki Dzire crossed the 3 million cumulative sales milestone in India, nearly two decades after its market debut

  • What makes the fourth-generation Dzire a stronger product than ever, from its fuel efficiency credentials to its 5-star safety ratings

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire crossed the 3 million cumulative sales mark in India, with the announcement made in New Delhi on March 13, 2026. To put that number in perspective, it took the car roughly 16 years to get there.

The Dzire first went on sale in 2008 as the sedan counterpart to the Swift hatchback, and in the years that followed, it became one of the most recognisable vehicles on Indian roads. Earlier milestones include clearing 1 million units in 2015 and 2 million units in 2019, making the journey to 3 million a steady, consistent climb.

2025 Was the Dzire's Best Year Yet

The milestone did not arrive quietly. In the calendar year 2025, the Dzire emerged as the highest-selling car in India with over 2.14 lakh units sold. That is a remarkable figure for any car, let alone a compact sedan in a market that has steadily shifted towards SUVs. It is also worth noting that the Dzire is the only sedan to have achieved the distinction of being India's best-selling car, and this was in fact the second time it reached that position, having previously done so back in 2018.

How the Fourth Generation Raised the Bar

Launched in November 2024, the fourth-generation Dzire has redefined what buyers expect from a compact sedan. The exterior received a sharper, more muscular redesign, while the interior quality and dashboard layout now rival those of larger cars in higher price brackets.

Fuel Efficiency That Sets the Standard

The current generation is powered by Maruti's Z-Series petrol engine and is available in both petrol and CNG options. The petrol manual version delivers a claimed fuel economy of 24.79 km/l, while the CNG variant is rated at up to 33.73 km/kg. These figures, certified by ARAI, make the Dzire the most fuel-efficient model in its class in both fuel types.

Safety and Features That Justify Every Rupee

The Dzire holds a 5-star rating in both BNCAP and Global NCAP assessments and comes with six airbags as standard, along with electronic stability control, hill hold assist, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

On the features front, it now offers a sunroof, a 360-degree camera, and a 9-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.

Who Is Buying the Dzire Today

The buyer profile of the Dzire tells an interesting story. According to Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer of Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki India, the fourth-generation Dzire has reignited the sedan segment and finds strong preference among young, first-time buyers, who represent nearly 50 per cent of its customer base. The car continues to serve fleet operators just as well, making it one of the few models in India that genuinely sells across every type of buyer.

Currently offered in four variants, namely LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi Plus, the Dzire starts at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 6.25 lakh. For what it offers in terms of safety, efficiency, and features, that remains a compelling proposition by any measure.
