The Maruti Suzuki Jimny, a highly anticipated SUV, will shortly be on sale in India. According to an internet pricing leak, the all-new Jimny is assumed to be far less expensive than its competitor, the Mahindra Thar.
The top-end Jimny model might be roughly Rs 4 lakh less expensive than the Thar. According to the leaked pricing, the base Jimny variant will cost approximately Rs 9.99 lakh, and the top-end variant will cost Rs 13.99 lakh ex-showroom. The top-tier MLD variant of the Thar 44 is priced at Rs 16.77 lakh ex-showroom.
After adding registration, insurance, and road tax, the top-end Mahindra Thar 4X4 LX hard-top diesel-automatic costs Rs 19.6 lakh in Delhi. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny will cost between Rs 15.5 lakh and Rs 16 lakh on the open road, representing a price differential of about 4 lakhs between the top-end models of both cars.
The Jimny will only be available with a petrol engine, whereas the Thar has a diesel engine option. The Jimny will have a 4-speed automatic gearbox, while the top-end Thar model has a 6-speed automatic gearbox. In addition to these differences, the Jimny and Thar differ in dimensions, with the Thar being 135mm higher and 175mm wider than the Jimny. The Thar has better ground clearance as well.
The base variant of the Jimny costs Rs 9.99 lakh, but the base variant of the Mahindra Thar 4X4 has an ex-showroom price of Rs 13.87 lakh. This is a difference of about Rs 4.5 lakh. Also recently released by Mahindra is an RWD version of the Thar with a 1.5-liter diesel engine that costs Rs 10.54 lakh.
In India, Jimny's maiden market, a 5-door version will be the only one offered by Maruti Suzuki. Dual airbags are included as standard safety equipment across all models. With bookings surpassing 25,000, the impending Jimny, being marketed as an off-road car, has already attracted much attention. The Zeta and Alpha are the two available models, which will be officially unveiled in May 2023. Both come standard with Suzuki's AllGrip 4WD technology and a 1.5-liter petrol engine that generates 104 PS. The engine will be compatible with a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual gearbox.
