Maruti Addresses Jimny Steering Vibration Issue With Free Repairs

Maruti Addresses Jimny Steering Vibration Issue with Free Repairs

Maruti Suzuki has taken steps to resolve the steering vibration issue reported in its Jimny SUV. A service bulletin has been issued, and Nexa service outlets are replacing key brake components for affected vehicles. Owners are being individually contacted, with repairs carried out free of cost.

What is the Steering Vibration Issue?

The problem, known among owners as the “Jimny death wobble,” involves the steering vibrating or wobbling when brakes are applied at speeds around 80km/h, disappearing below 60km/h.

Reported Cases: Mostly in Jimny units with less than 5,000km, though some vehicles with higher mileage have also exhibited the issue.

Root Cause: The issue has been traced to disc wear caused by a faulty king pin set.

Variability: While many units are affected, some Jimny owners, including a test vehicle driven for 12,000km, have reported no such issues.

How is Maruti Handling the Issue?

Maruti Suzuki has acknowledged the problem and is taking a proactive approach to address it:

  • Service Bulletin Issue: Nexa outlets are contacting Jimny owners to arrange for the inspection and repair process.

  • Component Replacement: Faulty king pin sets are being replaced in affected vehicles.

  • Disc brakes are inspected for wear and replaced, if necessary.

  • Repair Eligibility: Repairs are carried out only if the SUV has stock tyres.

  • Vehicles are tested by Maruti’s service team, and the issue is documented with video evidence before approval for repairs.

  • Cost and Warranty Coverage.

The estimated cost of replacing the king pin assembly and disc brakes is ₹2,020 and ₹4,400, respectively. However, Maruti Suzuki is performing these repairs free of charge under warranty, including labour costs.

What Should Jimny Owners Do?

Here are some of the actions that Jimny Owners should take:

  • Contact Nexa Service Centers: If you experience steering wobble, visit your nearest Nexa outlet for an inspection.

  • Early Inspection Recommended: Don’t wait for the issue to worsen, as proactive inspections can prevent further wear and tear.

  • No Cost Repairs: Eligible vehicles will be repaired under warranty at no cost to the owner.

Conclusion

Maruti Suzuki’s prompt response to the Jimny steering vibration issue reflects its commitment to customer satisfaction and safety. Owners are encouraged to contact Nexa service outlets to resolve the problem and ensure a smoother driving experience.
