Mahindra is getting ready to add a 5-door version of the popular SUV with a sunroof to its Thar lineup.
The Mahindra Thar has recently gained a lot of popularity, and this extension hopes to increase its appeal even further. By releasing the Thar 5-door, a tough and useful SUV that shares the personality of the 3-door model, Mahindra is aiming to attract Indian consumers who are interested in lifestyle vehicles.
The Thar 5-door will have more features than its cousin, including a verified sunroof as seen in recent spy photos. The new model will not have a soft-top option, but it will have improvements including an armrest in the centre of the front seat, an updated touchscreen infotainment system, more storage space inside, flexible seating choices (including two separate seats in the second row), and better interior materials.
Mahindra has admitted that it is struggling to complete a huge backlog of previous orders, which has exceeded two lakh units. Many SUV models are still on backorder, including the Thar 3-door, XUV700, Scorpio N, and Scorpio Classic.
The company has claimed that, given the current situation, fulfilling these orders is its first priority. It has also stated that, while various new product developments are going on in the background, debuts of new SUVs in the Indian market will have to wait until the following year.
“Our 5-door Thar is not coming in this calendar year, much as many folks are speculating it is. It's a 2024 [calendar year] launch,” said Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director & CEO of (Auto and Farm Sector), Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd.
