Mahindra Collaborates on Futuristic Vehicle for Dystopian Film 'Kalki 2898 AD'

The forthcoming dystopian sci-fi film "Kalki 2898 AD" is generating significant buzz not only due to its star-studded cast but also because of an innovative vehicle, the Bujji robot car.

This real-life, futuristic car was developed with the assistance of the Mahindra Research Valley team in Chennai, who provided their expertise in powertrain configuration, architecture, and performance. The vehicle was then assembled by Jayem Automotives, resulting in a one-of-a-kind cinematic prop.

The Bujji Robot Car

The Bujji robot car in "Kalki 2898 AD" is not just an ordinary movie prop but a character in its own right. Voiced by acclaimed actress Keerthy Suresh, the car exhibits human-like behavioral patterns, adding a unique dimension to the film. Recently unveiled in Hyderabad, the car made a dramatic debut with lead actor Prabhas making a grand entrance. Its distinct design features two hubless wheels at the front and a spherical wheel at the rear, making it an intriguing element of the film's futuristic setting.

Technical Specifications

The Bujji robot car stands out with its impressive dimensions and power. Measuring 6,047mm in length, 3,380mm in width, and 2,186mm in height, the vehicle weighs a hefty 6,000kg. The rear spherical wheel is powered by two electric motors from Mahindra, delivering a total system output of around 126hp and a staggering torque of 980Nm. A substantial 47kWh battery pack powers this colossal vehicle, ensuring it remains operational throughout its cinematic journey.

Design Elements

The Bujji robot car boasts several unique features that contribute to its futuristic appeal. Equipped with 34.5-inch hubless rims fitted with custom CEAT tires, the car also features canopy-style doors and a distinctive rear spherical tire. These elements not only enhance its visual appeal but also its functional design. The film's director, Nag Ashwin, sought assistance from Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Group, to bring this innovative vehicle to life. Responding positively, Mahindra directed Ashwin to R Velusamy, Chief of Global Product Development at Mahindra, who played a crucial role in the car's development.

The Cast and the Vision of the Future

"Kalki 2898 AD" promises to be an action-packed journey into a potential future as envisioned by director Nag Ashwin. The film features an illustrious cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Hassan, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani, Prabhas, and Keerthy Suresh. Set 800 years into the future, the film aims to explore what the world could look like in a distant, dystopian era.

Collaboration and Innovation

The collaboration between the filmmakers and Mahindra highlights the importance of innovation and teamwork in bringing creative visions to life. The Mahindra Research Valley team's involvement in the Bujji robot car's development showcases the company's capabilities in advanced automotive engineering. Mahindra's expertise ensured that the car not only met the futuristic design requirements but also performed reliably as a functional vehicle on set.

Mahindra's Congratulatory Note

Following the successful unveiling and the role of the Bujji robot car in "Kalki 2898 AD," Mahindra tweeted their congratulations to Nag Ashwin and his team. The tweet emphasized the company's pride in contributing to such a groundbreaking project, reinforcing Mahindra's commitment to innovation and excellence in automotive engineering.

Looking Forward

As "Kalki 2898 AD" gears up for its release, the anticipation surrounding the film continues to build. The Bujji robot car stands as a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration between creative minds and technological experts. This innovative vehicle not only enhances the film's narrative but also showcases the potential for futuristic automotive designs.

The partnership between Mahindra and the makers of "Kalki 2898 AD" has resulted in a remarkable fusion of technology and storytelling. The Bujji robot car is set to captivate audiences and leave a lasting impression, both on and off the screen. As the film prepares for its debut, the excitement and curiosity surrounding this unique vehicle and its role in the cinematic landscape continue to grow.
