The Kia EV6 GT, known for its exhilarating performance, is set to receive a major update featuring a powertrain closely related to the one in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. This significant upgrade will boost the EV6 GT's performance, making it a true contender in the high-performance EV segment.
A Power Boost for the EV6 GT
The updated EV6 GT will feature a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup derived from the Ioniq 5 N, producing an impressive 650hp and 770Nm of torque in its GT mode. This is a considerable upgrade from the outgoing EV6 GT, which delivered 584hp.
With these enhancements, the EV6 GT is expected to improve upon its 0-100kph time of 3.5 seconds. For comparison, the Ioniq 5 N achieves the same sprint in 3.4 seconds. While Kia hasn’t disclosed the exact performance figures yet, the power boost ensures it will be faster and more dynamic than its predecessor.
Simulated Automatic Gearbox for a Performance Feel
Kia will also equip the updated EV6 GT with a simulated automatic gearbox, first introduced in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. This system replicates the power delivery and shifting feel of a combustion engine. It uses artificial "engine" sounds and simulated gear shifts for an immersive experience.
Drivers can operate the gearbox in automatic mode, use steering-mounted paddles for manual control, or disable the feature entirely for a traditional EV driving experience. This innovation caters to enthusiasts seeking the familiar engagement of a performance car.
Larger Battery and Improved Range
The updated EV6 GT will house a larger 84kWh battery, up from the previous model's 77kWh pack. This upgrade is expected to marginally increase its range, currently rated at 423km on a single charge. The new battery also supports the car’s increased power output, ensuring a balance between performance and practicality.
Styling and Interior Updates
While no official images of the updated EV6 GT have been released, it is expected to adopt design elements from the facelifted EV6 range. Influenced by the EV3, EV5, and EV9 models, the facelift will likely include sharper styling and an updated interior featuring a new three-spoke steering wheel and enhanced materials.
Availability in India
In India, Kia currently offers the pre-facelift EV6 in the GT Line guise. Although the facelifted EV6 is expected to arrive in the Indian market next year, there are no indications that the GT performance variant will be launched here.
The Kia EV6 GT’s updates represent a significant leap forward in the electric performance segment, combining raw power, cutting-edge tech, and refined aesthetics. Stay tuned for more details as Kia reveals the facelifted EV6 GT in the coming months.
