With a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and a two-motor hybrid setup, the sixth-generation Honda Prelude produces about 200 horsepower and 315 Nm of torque.
Honda is considering launching a worldwide halo model in India in 2025 or 2026. This model has the potential to change the perception of Honda Cars India to one that is more focused on performance and hybrid vehicles.
Honda has revived the Prelude moniker as a svelte, high-performance hybrid sports coupe after a break. The project's goal, according to the development team, is to create "a new hybrid sports car for the EV era" rather than just a nostalgic resurrection.
The vehicle's chassis hardware and sophisticated hybrid system are similar to those of the renowned Honda Civic Type R.
Driving Impressions and Powertrain
A two-motor hybrid system coupled to a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle petrol engine powers the Prelude. They generate about 200 horsepower and 315 Nm (232 lb-ft) of torque when combined.
During a test drive at Honda's Tochigi proving ground, the car's immediate electric torque, smooth power delivery, and lack of turbo lag allowed it to launch cleanly out of corners.
It has significant stability on fast turns thanks to adaptive dampers, a dual-axis strut front suspension, Brembo 4-piston brakes, and 19-inch tires, features that are often found in specialized sports cars rather than grand tourers.
Interior Feel and Design
The Prelude's large hood, short back deck, flush door handles, and double-bubble roof give it a low and wide sports coupe appearance. It stands out for its traditional dimensions.
With sport seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel with paddles, blue stitching, and a configuration that combines everyday comfort with performance intent, the inside of the car is still simple but elegant.
The Prelude's Possible Contribution to Honda's Return to India
Honda has expressed a strong desire to assess the Prelude for India, even though the company has not yet announced an Indian launch.
The Prelude might work as a "halo" vehicle for Honda Cars India, one that attracts fans and improves the brand's image while selling in small quantities.
Market positioning, hybrid/EV regulatory trends, and the viability of importing or domestically manufacturing such a model are important considerations for India.
Outlook
If the Prelude is introduced in India in 2025–2026, it may mark the beginning of a new era for Honda in that nation, one that combines style, performance, and hybrid technology. Although it might not pursue volume, it has great potential as a brand builder.
Essentially, the new Prelude is about reimagining what Honda means to Indian consumers, not just about a two-door coupe.
