Fourth Gen Nissan X Trail Will Come By August As A Cbu And Be Sold In Limited Numbers

Fourth-gen Nissan X-Trail will come by August as a CBU and be sold in limited numbers

The Japanese Automaker, Nissan has maintained its position in India with just one model, the Magnite small SUV since the cancellation of the Kicks in April 2023. The 2019 Nissan X-Trail is set to bring about a change in that regard. Nissan sold the first and second-generation SUVs in India and the company even displayed the third generation a few years back, but it was never put on sale.

Limited Numbers and Petrol-Only Variant

The fourth-gen X-Trail, on sale in international markets since 2021, has been spied testing on Indian roads a few times. It has been available for purchase in foreign countries since 2021. In 2022, the Japanese firm also displayed this model in India, announcing that it would soon be available there.

Autocar India has received confirmation from Francois Bailly, Nissan's chief planning officer, that the X-Trail, albeit with a petrol engine, will arrive by August. According to a dealer, Nissan will import up to 2,500 X-Trails without requiring homologation since they will be sold as CBUs. "It's a special limited import for true petrol aficionados, especially for Nissan lovers," they stated.

No Hybrid Option for India

The hybrid model of the 7-seater SUV, which was unveiled in India in October 2022, will not be offered; instead, it will only be available with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This engine generates 305 Nm and 204 horsepower. It is established that a CVT gearbox is available, although it is unknown if it will have 2WD or AWD. At the same event in 2022, Nissan also displayed the SUVs, the Juke and Qashqai, both of which include hybridization and may still be being considered for our market.

Pricing and Competition

According to the reports and given its dimensions and petrol-only powertrain, the X-Trail is expected to compete with the Skoda Kodiaq. This 7-seat vehicle costs Rs 39.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and is exclusively offered with a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine producing 190 horsepower.

Nissan is working on a makeover for the X-Trail and Magnite CBU vehicles, which might keep customers interested in the brand.
