EVs contribute over 78% of sales for MG Motor India

JSW MG Motor India shipped 4,002 units in February 2025, according to its wholesale sales report. The business also disclosed that it sold 4,956 cars at retail last month, representing a 9.36% increase over the 4,536 units sold in February 2024. Electric cars (EVs), which currently account for more than 78% of MG's total sales, have been a major factor in the company's success.

The ZS EV, Comet EV, and Windsor EV are the three all-electric vehicles that MG Motor India sells. Since its introduction, the Windsor has been a strong seller for the business.

After rival Tata Motors experienced a decline in sales in the same market last month, MG Motor India reported that the new Windsor has contributed to the brand's increased market penetration in the EV sector.

In February, the Windsor exceeded the manufacturing milestone of 15,000 units, indicating the model's increasing appeal.

MG temporarily reduces Production

To make adjustments before the release of new models and to boost the Windsor's capacity to satisfy the rising demand, MG also disclosed that it briefly lowered production at its Halol factory in Gujarat last month.

Additionally, MG redesigned the Astor portfolio this month, dropping the 1.3-liter turbocharged petrol engine and adding the electric sunroof to lower-end models. In an attempt to attract customers with its entry-level model's blacked-out paintwork, it also introduced the Comet Blackstorm Edition last month.

2 new MG models lined up for a launch

In the upcoming months, MG Motor India plans to launch two new products. The brand-new, high-end MG Select dealerships will sell the MG Cyberster electric roadster and M9 limousine.

The carmaker recently revealed that, as part of its initial development phase, it would have 14 MG Select stores open in 13 locations in the upcoming months.

Conclusion

MG Motor India's strong push into the EV segment continues to yield impressive results, with electric vehicles accounting for over 78% of its total sales. The Windsor EV has played a key role in this growth, helping the brand gain market share even as competitors faced declines. While the company briefly scaled down production to prepare for upcoming models, its strategic moves—including expanding the Astor lineup and introducing special editions—aim to maintain momentum. With the upcoming launch of the Cyberster electric roadster and M9 limousine through its exclusive MG Select dealerships, MG Motor India is set to strengthen its presence in the evolving Indian EV market.
