Citroen has recently dropped the teaser of its Basalt model which we have found to resemble much that of the C3 Aircross but with dual displays and the same AC vents. This SUV coupe will be Citroen’s fifth vehicle in India which is also expected to rival Tata Curvv EV as the carmaker drops the teaser instantly after Tata revealed the exterior design.
Sleek Exterior Design
The Citroen Basalt boasts a modern and stylish exterior, characterized by a coupe-like sloping roofline that adds a sporty touch to its appearance. The front of the vehicle is equipped with halogen projector headlights and V-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs), giving it a distinctive look. The rear of the Basalt features wraparound LED tail lights and a high-positioned boot lid, proudly displaying the Citroen logo and the ‘Basalt’ moniker.
Interior Features
The interior of the Citroen Basalt closely resembles that of the C3 Aircross. The dashboard is equipped with a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch fully digital driver’s display. The central AC vents are designed similarly to those in the C3 Aircross. One significant upgrade in the Basalt is the addition of an automatic AC panel, which is not available in the C3 Aircross. This feature promises enhanced convenience and comfort for the driver and passengers.
Expected Features and Safety
The Citroen Basalt is expected to come with a host of advanced features aimed at providing a premium driving experience. These include cruise control, a wireless phone charger, push-button start/stop, and keyless entry. The vehicle’s safety features are likely to include six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). These features ensure that the Basalt not only offers a comfortable ride but also prioritizes the safety of its occupants.
Powertrain
Under the hood, the Citroen Basalt is expected to house the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine found in the C3 Aircross and the C3 hatchback. This engine is capable of delivering 110 PS of power and up to 205 Nm of torque. The vehicle is likely to offer two transmission options: a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. These powertrain options are designed to provide a balanced combination of performance and fuel efficiency.
Launch and Rivals
The Citroen Basalt is anticipated to hit the Indian market in August, with an expected starting price of Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). The vehicle is set to compete directly with the recently unveiled Tata Curvv. Additionally, it will challenge other popular models in the segment, including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Citroen C3 Aircross, Honda Elevate. The Citroen Basalt’s unique blend of style, features, and performance is likely to make it a compelling choice for consumers.
In Summary, The Citroen Basalt, with its stylish design and advanced features, is poised to make a significant impact in the Indian automotive market. The interior, resembling the C3 Aircross, offers a blend of comfort and technology, while the exterior design ensures that the vehicle stands out on the road. With a host of safety features and a powerful engine, the Basalt promises a well-rounded driving experience. As it prepares to compete with established rivals, Basalt’s unique offerings are expected to attract a considerable number of buyers looking for a stylish and feature-rich SUV coupe.
