Audi Q9 Interior Revealed Ahead of Its Global Debut

Audi has given the world its first proper look inside the upcoming Q9, its soon-to-be range-topping SUV. With electrically operated doors appearing on an Audi production car for the very first time, a panoramic roof embedded with 84 LEDs, ventilated captain seats in the second row, and a Bang and Olufsen system that lets passengers physically feel the music, the Q9 arrives as one of the most tech-forward luxury SUVs Audi has ever built.

  • The Audi Q9 will be the brand's new flagship SUV, slotting above the Q7 and Q8 in the global lineup.

  • The Q9 introduces electrically operated doors to an Audi production model for the very first time.

Audi has officially revealed the interior of the Q9 ahead of its global debut, which is expected later this year. Positioned as the brand's new flagship SUV, the Q9 places an unmistakable emphasis on cabin space, premium comfort, and cutting-edge technology. It will sit at the very top of Audi's SUV range, above both the Q7 and Q8, and the interior reveal makes clear that Audi intends it to feel every bit as significant as that position demands.

The Q9 will be offered in both six and seven-seat configurations. Those who opt for the six-seat layout will find two electrically adjustable captain seats in the second row, complete with active ventilation for both the base and backrest.

The front seats also receive ventilation and massage functions, and all seats across the vehicle are partially power-adjustable as standard. For families who need the flexibility, the third-row seatbacks can be folded individually using electric controls.

Electric Doors Make Their Audi Debut

One of the most talked-about features of the Q9 is the introduction of electrically operated doors, which appear on an Audi production model for the very first time. These doors can be triggered in several ways, including via the key, the myAudi app, the MMI infotainment system, the brake pedal, or even the seatbelt buckle.

Audi has also built in surround sensors with obstacle detection, which prevent the doors from swinging into nearby objects, passing cyclists, or other vehicles. It is the kind of thoughtful detail that genuinely improves daily usability, particularly in tightly packed car parks or busy urban streets.

A Panoramic Roof with a Trick Up Its Sleeve

The Q9 gets a large panoramic sunroof fitted with switchable transparency technology. The glass is divided into nine individually controllable sections, each of which can be turned opaque at the touch of a button.

Audi has also added a clever automatic function whereby the roof turns opaque when the car is parked and returns to its previous setting once the ignition is restarted.

On top-spec variants, 84 integrated LEDs are woven into the roof structure, working in tandem with the cabin's ambient lighting system across 30 different colour themes.

Sound, Technology, and the Road Ahead

Audi has equipped the Q9 with an updated Bang and Olufsen premium audio system featuring 4D sound technology.

Beyond conventional surround sound and headrest speakers, the setup also uses seat-mounted actuators that allow occupants to physically feel bass and effects through the seats, a feature that elevates the listening experience well beyond what most luxury SUVs currently offer.

Screens, Charging, and What Is Still to Come

The dashboard is home to Audi's latest MMI panoramic display setup, while the centre console features dual wireless charging pads that comply with the Qi2.2 standard. These support fast charging for two devices simultaneously and are compatible with MagSafe-enabled smartphones. A large heads-up display is also present, though full technical details on the infotainment layout are yet to be confirmed.

Powertrain specifications, dimensions, and market rollout plans will be announced closer to the official debut. Audi is also expected to bring the Q9 to India, though its arrival in the market is not anticipated before 2027.
