A teaser shared by VW India on social media previews the GT emblem with today's date, hinting at the launch of the Taigun GT Plus Sport SUV in the Indian market. The Taigun SUV was initially launched by Volkswagen in India in 2021, featuring the Dynamic and Performance line variants. The Performance line included the Taigun GT and GT Plus models. Now, Volkswagen is preparing to unveil the GT Plus Sport line in India, expanding the Taigun's offering in the market.
Currently, the Taigun is available in India with an ex-showroom price range of Rs 11.69 to 19.76 lakh, offering two engine options: a 1.0 L 3-cylinder TSI engine generating 113.42 bhp and 178 Nm of torque and a 1.5 L 4-cylinder TSI engine producing 147.94 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. The GT range exclusively features the 1.5 L TSI engine, signalling a performance-oriented lineup. The forthcoming Taigun GT Plus Sport is expected to continue with this engine option.
The GT Plus Sport edition is likely to showcase a distinctive design, featuring elements such as chrome delete, and blacked-out aesthetics including emblems, a grille, a diffuser, alloy wheels, and smoked headlamps. Exterior enhancements may include GT badging, red brake callipers, dark chrome door handles, and a Carbon Steel Grey roof, among other sporty details. Inside the cabin, the GT treatment is expected to include leatherette seats with red stitching and the GT emblem, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching, gloss black dashboard trims, sporty aluminium pedals, and more.
