Mangaluru has high-density traffic. Factor in overspeeding, driving while intoxicated, and driving without safety gear, and accidents are bound to occur.
To discourage people from committing traffic violations, the government has introduced fines for traffic violations per the Motor Vehicles Act (2019). Most of these fines were revised to emphasise the importance of following traffic rules; in some cases, it made things fiscally easier for the residents.
For ease of convenience, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTG) introduced surveillance cameras that make issuing end-to-end automated e-challans a possibility, making the process easier for both: traffic officers and drivers.
