The cultural capital of Tamilnadu, Madurai is also the third biggest city in the state. Traffic congestion at important junctions is not uncommon in Madurai. There are more than a thousand traffic violations in the city, every day.
Managing this traffic and dealing with the violations is quite a task. Fortunately, most of the services including checking the challan's status and paying the dues can be done online.
There are several ways to check a challan issued in Madurai.
The traditional method is to visit the RTO and enquire with the assigned officer.
The easier option would be to visit the Parivahan website and enter one of the following - Challan number, Driving Licence number, or Vehicle number. Enter the captcha and hit the 'Get Details' button to view the challan. One can find a list of the challans issued.
Alternatively, one can also visit the Tamil Nadu Transport and Road Safety website and go to the Citizen Services page. From here, one can choose the e-Challan option and enter the Challan/Vehicle/Driving Licence number to view the status of the Challan.
Just like shopping for goods, challan payments can be made online or offline.
Offline Mode: To pay a challan offline, one can visit the Madurai RTO and provide the challan copy and pay in cash. Another way to pay a challan offline is with the help of a traffic policeman having a challan machine. You can show the hard copy of the challan and make the payment.
