Being the second-largest city in the state of Tamil Nadu and one of the most developing cities in the country, Coimbatore entertains heavy traffic throughout. To regulate and ease the traffic, and to reduce the breaking of traffic rules, the government has implemented the traffic e-challan system.
The e-challan is a digitalized system introduced by the government to levy fines on traffic offenders in a systematic manner. The process of paying traffic fines was never this much easier. The Tamil Nadu police and the Coimbatore city police are responsible for collecting the fines.
You can check your traffic e-challans that are due, through the official websites of the state and city governments as well as the Park+ website/app.
You can check your traffic e-challan status on the official e-challan website of India, 'Parivahan'. The process is simple. You have to enter either your challan number, vehicle number or driving license number. Then you will be prompted to enter the captcha code.
After entering it, you can check the details of the penalties that are due for you. You can choose to pay the e-challan right away or through other modes.
Since the paper challan system was replaced with the digitalized e-challan system, you have many options to pay for it, both offline and online. Though the online mode is easier and more convenient, some users prefer the traditional offline mode.
In the offline mode, the first way to pay an e-challan is to approach a traffic police officer with an e-challan device and pay by cash. You will receive the receipt right away.
The second way is to approach the Coimbatore police headquarters and pay your e-challan with cash. The third option is to send it by post to the address of the Coimbatore police department in the form of a pay order, demand draft, or cheque.
In the online mode, you can pay the e-challan through the Tamil Nadu police official website. On the site, select Citizen Services and then E-Payment for Traffic Challans. Clicking on it will redirect you to the e-Challan Parivahan portal, the official e-challan website of India.
You can also directly go to the 'Parivahan' website to pay it. There, you will be asked to enter your challan number/driving license number/vehicle number. Then you will be prompted to enter a captcha code. Right after that, you will receive the e-challan details. You can pay this amount right away.
