Volvo Xc40 Recharge Reintroduced As Ex40 Priced At Indian Rupee56 Lakh 10 Thousand

Volvo XC40 Recharge Reintroduced as EX40, Priced at ₹56.10 Lakh

Volvo India has officially given its XC40 Recharge electric SUV a new name: the EX40. This change is part of Volvo’s global rebranding strategy, aimed at aligning its electric vehicle lineup under a unified naming convention.

Introduced globally earlier this year, the move ensures a consistent naming structure for Volvo’s EV range, including models like the EX30 and EX90. Even the coupe-SUV version, the C40 Recharge, is expected to adopt the name EC40 soon.

For Indian buyers, the rebranded EX40 comes with a slight price increase, starting at ₹56.10 lakh (ex-showroom). This represents a ₹1.15 lakh increase compared to its predecessor, the XC40 Recharge. Despite the new name and added features, the mechanical foundation remains largely unchanged.

What Sets the EX40 Apart?

The Volvo EX40 brings an array of premium features to the table, enhancing its appeal in the competitive EV market. While the underlying hardware mirrors the XC40 Recharge, Volvo has added some noteworthy upgrades.

One standout addition is the 360-degree camera, offering a bird’s-eye view to make parking and maneuvering in tight spaces effortless. Additionally, the EX40 now comes with a high-end Harman Kardon sound system, delivering immersive audio quality for music lovers.

These features were absent in the single-motor variant of the XC40 Recharge, giving the EX40 an edge over its predecessor.

Other features include Pixel LED headlamps for sharper illumination, two-zone climate control for personalized comfort, and a large 12-inch digital driver’s display paired with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

A panoramic sunroof, power front seats, wireless phone charging, and park assist further enhance the luxury quotient.

On the exterior, the EX40 rides on striking 19-inch alloy wheels, combining style with functionality.

Performance and Range: No Changes Under the Hood

Mechanically, the EX40 retains the same specifications as the XC40 Recharge. It is powered by a robust 69kWh battery pack, delivering 238hp and 420Nm of torque. The electric SUV offers a claimed range of 475 kilometers on the WLTP cycle, ensuring it remains a practical choice for daily commutes and long drives alike.

Currently, the EX40 is available in a rear-wheel-drive configuration only. This setup caters to drivers who prioritize efficiency and a smooth driving experience.

XC40 Recharge: Still Available with Attractive Offers

For those who prefer the earlier version, Volvo India still has some XC40 Recharge units in stock. These are being offered with discounts of up to ₹5.05 lakh, making them an appealing option for value-conscious buyers.

However, only the single-motor variant is available, as the twin-motor versions have already sold out.

Meanwhile, the coupe-style C40 Recharge, featuring a more powerful 408hp twin-motor setup and a larger 78kWh battery, is listed with discounts of up to ₹1.05 lakh.

In the end Volvo’s rebranding of the XC40 Recharge as the EX40 reflects the brand’s commitment to creating a streamlined identity for its electric vehicles. With its added features, the EX40 offers a more refined and luxurious experience while maintaining the strong performance and range of its predecessor.

For buyers, the choice between the discounted XC40 Recharge and the feature-rich EX40 depends on priorities—whether it’s saving money or enjoying the latest tech. Either way, Volvo’s electric SUV lineup continues to impress, reinforcing the brand’s dedication to a sustainable and stylish future.
