Toyotas New Water Purification Units A Lifeline For Ramanagara District

Toyota's New Water Purification Units: A Lifeline for Ramanagara District

Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the joint venture between Toyota Motor Corporation and Kirloskar Group has once again showcased its commitment to the well-being of localities. They have addressed one of the major challenges India is facing in this current environment, i.e., impure water. On August 20, 2024, TKM announced the installation of three state-of-the-art water purification units in the Ramanagara District, a move set to transform the lives of thousands in the region.

A Step Toward Clean Water for All

The newly operational water purification units have been strategically placed in Benne Halli, Kodiyala Karenahalli, and Chennemaregowdanadoddi—villages where clean drinking water was desperately needed. With the installation of these units, TKM is not just providing water; it's offering a lifeline. These units ensure that around 21,000 villagers across 15 villages have reliable access to safe and clean drinking water.

Cutting-edge technology for Pure Water

These water purification units are more than just simple filters; they have a sophisticated six-stage filtration process. Each unit can purify up to 1,000 liters of water per hour. The process includes Activated Carbon Filters, Multimedia Filtration, 5 Microns, 1 Micron, Reverse Osmosis (RO), and UV filtration, ensuring the water meets the highest quality standards. What's even more impressive is that these units operate on renewable energy, specifically solar power, making them sustainable and environmentally friendly. Maintenance of these units will be handled by the Grama Panchayat and a dedicated maintenance agency, ensuring they remain operational for at least 15 years.

Impacting Thousands of Lives

The impact of these installations is monumental. Not only do they cater to the immediate need for clean drinking water, but they also symbolize TKM’s long-term commitment to improving the quality of life in the communities they serve. This latest effort is part of a broader initiative by TKM, which has seen the installation of 51 water purification units across India, benefiting over 350,000 people in 312 villages. By prioritizing access to clean water, TKM is addressing one of the most critical aspects of public health and well-being.

A Deeper Commitment to Community Welfare

According to Mr. Sudeep Dalvi, Senior Vice President and Chief Communication Officer at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, TKM's dedication to the community extends far beyond the automobile industry. "At Toyota Kirloskar Motor, we believe that our commitment to the community extends far beyond just manufacturing vehicles. It encompasses a deep-rooted responsibility to uplift the lives of the people around us," Dalvi stated. He emphasized that access to clean drinking water is a fundamental right, and TKM’s initiative is a response to a pressing need in the Ramanagara District. Dalvi highlighted that TKM’s approach is not just about providing infrastructure but also about ensuring the sustainability of these projects. "We believe that by aligning our efforts with community needs, we can create a brighter and more sustainable future for all," he added.

TKM's Long-Standing Commitment to CSR

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not a new concept for TKM. Since 2001, the company has woven CSR into the fabric of its operations, focusing on scalable and sustainable initiatives that address the needs of the communities they serve. TKM’s CSR efforts are categorized into five key areas: Education, Environment, Health & Hygiene, Road Safety, and Skill Development. The company's recent activities reflect this commitment, particularly in the realm of healthcare. For instance, TKM has supported the establishment of a Primary Health Centre (PHC) and a Community Health Centre in Bidadi, Karnataka, which includes a specialized oxygen-generating plant. These centers have been instrumental in providing specialized care to the local population.

Moreover, TKM has initiated several school-based health and hygiene programs, such as the ABCD (A Behavioural Change Demonstration) and the Toyota Shaale Arogya Program. These programs have played a crucial role in improving health outcomes among schoolchildren in the community. In the fiscal year 2022-23 alone, TKM’s initiatives positively impacted over 64,000 individuals. Over the years, TKM’s CSR interventions have touched the lives of more than 2.3 million people across India, making a substantial and lasting difference.

In summary, Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s recent installation of water purification units in Ramanagara District is a powerful example of how corporate responsibility can lead to meaningful change. By ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water, TKM is not only improving the health and well-being of thousands but also laying the foundation for a brighter and more sustainable future. This initiative is a testament to TKM’s ongoing commitment to the communities they serve, demonstrating that their impact goes far beyond the automotive industry. Through their CSR efforts, TKM continues to uplift and empower communities, one initiative at a time.
