Dhani Ram Mittal, known as 'Super Natwarlal' and 'Indian Charles Sobhraj' in police records, has carved out an extraordinary criminal legacy in India. Despite holding a law degree and having skills in handwriting analysis and graphology, Mittal chose a life of crime, specializing in the theft of cars. His criminal endeavors span nearly six decades, with a staggering record of over 1000 car thefts, primarily in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and nearby areas.
One of Mittal's most audacious exploits involved a meticulously planned strategy to enable the temporary vacation of an additional session Judge. Using false documents, he managed to send the Judge on a two-month holiday. Seizing this opportunity, Mittal assumed the role of the Judge himself, presiding over court proceedings and freeing over 2000 criminals. However, the released criminals faced the long arm of the law once again, as they were eventually recaptured and sent back to prison. Notably, Mittal even heard his own case, delivering a judgment before authorities realized the intricacies of his scheme. By then, he had vanished into the shadows.
Before his criminal pursuits, Mittal, a law graduate, held a legitimate job as a station master using forged documents from 1968 to 1974. His ability to manipulate legal systems added another layer to his criminal persona.
Recently, Mittal made headlines again with his arrest in Delhi's Paschim Vihar. Caught in the act of trying to sell a stolen Maruti Esteem car to a scrap dealer, he was taken into custody. This incident marked his second car theft since his release from jail on May 4, with a prior arrest in March.
During police interrogation, Mittal admitted to a modus operandi focused on older vehicles that lacked sophisticated anti-auto theft security systems. His criminal career, characterized by audacity and a sophisticated approach, presents a unique chapter in the criminal history of India. Mittal's knowledge of the law and his adept use of legal strategies to further his criminal pursuits add an intriguing layer to his story. His ability to exploit legal loopholes and orchestrate complex schemes has made him a distinctive figure in the realm of Indian crime.
