The Global Launch Of The New Electric Ford Bronco

Ford is expanding its EV line-up by introducing the new Bronco Electric, with a signature EV feature, updated design elements, a new grille, and off-road styling. Technical details will be out soon.

Ford Bronco.

The Ford Bronco is all set to expand its SUV lineup by globally launching the new Bronco Electric SUV. The new electric version of the iconic Bronco is all-new, but its design is taken from the petrol version of the Bronco and Bronco Sport SUVs, that has been on the market for a few years now.

This all-new SUV will come with modern, eco-friendly, All-Electric (EV) and EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) powertrain options.

The Design of The New Stylish SUV

Essentially, this is a joint project between Ford and Jiangling Motors, Ford’s partner in China. Coming to the design of this new SUV, it maintains the classic boxy and muscular looks for the standard Bronco, with some design updates to set it apart as an EV.

A typical EV style closed-off front grille with illuminated DRLs, a new set of bumpers gives it a futuristic look, but preserves the off-road appeal.

Dimensions

This SUV is a little bigger than the full-size petrol-based Ford Bronco SUV. According to the data revealed on China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) website, both SUVs share the same wheelbase size, but there are some key differences in the Ford Bronco New Energy.

  • 5,025mm in length

  • 1,960mm in width

  • 1,815mm in height

  • A 2,950mm wheelbase

  • A curb weight of 2,630kg

  • It is as long as the Kia EV9 electric SUV

Battery and The New Powertrain Energy

The EV version:-

According to the reports, this new EV will get an AWD dual-motor powertrain. A motor of 177hp on the front axle and a 275hp motor in the rear, which will provide a combined output of 311hp and a great speed of 170 km/h.

In terms of battery capacity, it comes with a BYD-supplied 105.4kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) blade battery, which is good for 650km CLTC range.

As per the shared surfaced on the internet, it shows a lidar unit above the front windshield, which means more advanced ADAS in the New Energy in the Bronco lineup.

The EREV version:-

This version of the new SUV is a plug-in hybrid setup, named EREV. Same as the pure EV variant, this also comes with the same electric motor on the front, and a smaller 245hp on the rear axle.

In this one, there's a 1.5-litre petrol engine which delivers 150hp of power. The petrol engine of this new EREV-tech vehicle is not connected to the wheels and is a sole power generator for the battery or the electric motor’s support. It offers a 43.7kWh battery, which is capable of providing a 220 km range, and can travel up to 1,220km.

The Expected Launch Plans

According to the reports, the new Ford Bronco will initially be launched in the Chinese market for sale, followed by other markets in the future. Currently, there are no Ford vehicles in the Indian market for sale, but they’re likely to make a comeback with the Everest SUV.

On the other hand, Maruti is also working on EREV-tech vehicles, which might be introduced as one of its mass-market tech products once it's ready.

Ford is expanding its line-up and revealing that this new model is a part of its broader electrification plan. The SUV is likely to be first launched in international markets, with a high potential for future consideration in regions with a growing EV market. The global debut of this SUV retains the Bronco’s iconic design language, but with updated EV-specific elements.
