Tata Sales November 2024: YoY Growth, MoM Decline, and Market Trends

The Indian automotive sector showcased a mixed bag of performance in November 2024, with some segments witnessing growth while others grappled with challenges. Tata Motors reflected this dynamic, reporting gains in its passenger vehicle (PV) segment but facing hurdles in commercial vehicles (CVs).

Passenger Vehicle (PV) Sales: Modest YoY Growth

Tata Motors achieved marginal year-on-year (YoY) growth in its passenger vehicle segment. Total PV sales, including domestic and exports, reached 47,117 units in November 2024, a 2.11% increase over the 46,143 units sold in the same period last year.

  • Domestic PV Sales
Tata's domestic PV sales improved by 2.16%, with 47,063 units sold compared to 46,068 units in November 2023. However, on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, the sales dipped by 2.22% from 48,131 units sold in October 2024.

  • Exports
The export market faced a significant YoY decline of 28%, with just 54 units shipped compared to 75 units in November 2023.

  • Electric Vehicle (EV) Sales
Tata Motors’ electric vehicle lineup continued to perform well, with sales growing by 9.26% YoY. The company sold 5,202 EVs in November 2024, up from 4,761 units in November 2023.

Commercial Vehicle (CV) Sales: Challenges Persist

Tata’s commercial vehicle segment reported a 1% YoY decline in total sales, dropping to 27,636 units from 28,029 units in November 2023.

Domestic CV Sales
Domestic CV sales stood at 26,183 units, a slight decrease of 1% compared to 26,579 units in the same period last year.

  • HCV Trucks: Sales declined by 8% YoY to 7,586 units from 8,253 units in November 2023.

  • ILMCV Trucks: This category maintained flat sales with 4,374 units sold, similar to 4,285 units last year.

  • Passenger Carriers: Demonstrating robust growth, the passenger carrier segment surged by 42% to 3,022 units, up from 2,130 units in November 2023.

  • SCV Cargo and Pick-ups: Sales in this segment fell by 5%, declining to 11,201 units from 11,811 units sold in November 2023.

Exports
CV exports remained nearly stagnant, with 1,453 units shipped, a marginal increase from 1,450 units in November 2023.

Future Outlook and Upcoming Launches

Tata Motors has an exciting roadmap ahead, particularly in the passenger vehicle segment:

  • Facelifts for Tata Tiago and Tigor: The refreshed versions are scheduled for an early 2025 launch, aiming to maintain their competitive edge.

  • 2025 Tata Sierra: Spied during test runs, the Tata Sierra will debut in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) formats, showcasing Tata’s commitment to versatility.

  • Curvv EV and ICE Variants: The recently launched Curvv SUV, available in EV and ICE versions, has seen increased demand. Tata plans to introduce more variants to meet this growing interest.

Market Dynamics and Challenges

The mixed sales performance of Tata Motors in November 2024 reflects broader market dynamics, including fluctuating demand and segment-specific challenges. While the PV segment showed resilience, the CV sector faced headwinds. With its focus on innovation, particularly in EVs, and a strong pipeline of new launches, Tata Motors is well-positioned to address these challenges and capture future growth opportunities.

This report underscores Tata Motors’ balanced approach to navigating a dynamic market landscape. While there are hurdles to overcome, the company's commitment to innovation and customer-centric strategies remains unwavering.
