There is something almost unremarkable about the way this announcement slipped in. Tata Motors introduced the Nexon Pure+ PS earlier this week, and the car has wasted no time getting to forecourts.
Units have already begun arriving at dealerships across the country, with the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol version being among the first to be spotted at showrooms.
What makes this variant genuinely noteworthy is the price point at which it delivers its headline feature. At Rs. 9.59 lakh (ex-showroom), the Pure+ PS becomes the first production car in India to offer a panoramic sunroof below the Rs. 10 lakh mark. That is not a marketing claim dressed up in caveats; it is simply a fact, and one that will give competing manufacturers a fair amount to think about.
Three Powertrain Options, One Variant
The Nexon Pure+ PS is not limited to a single engine choice, which is worth noting given its entry-level positioning.
Buyers can choose from a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit, a 1.5-litre diesel, or a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol with CNG. Transmission options across all three are limited to a six-speed manual and an AMT unit, keeping things straightforward and sensibly priced.
A Feature List That Goes Well Beyond the Sunroof
The panoramic sunroof may be the talking point, but it is far from the only reason this variant deserves attention. The Pure+ PS comes fitted with a voice-assisted mechanism to operate the sunroof, which feels like a thoughtful touch at this price.
Supporting the cabin experience are a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless phone mirroring, and a fully digital instrument cluster.
Safety has not been compromised either. Six airbags come as standard, and the car also gets all-LED lighting front and rear. Practicality-focused additions include auto-folding outside mirrors, a height-adjustable driver's seat, rear AC vents, and a rear wiper and washer.
Drive modes round off the package, adding a layer of versatility that feels genuinely useful in everyday motoring.
Cruise control and a pair of tweeters also feature, suggesting that Tata has thought carefully about making this feel like a well-rounded product rather than a stripped-down trim with one notable feature bolted on.
The Bigger Picture for the Nexon Range
The Nexon has long been one of India's best-selling compact SUVs, and this new variant reinforces why the nameplate continues to hold its ground. By slotting a panoramic sunroof into a variant priced under Rs. 10 lakh, Tata Motors is signalling that premium touches need not be the preserve of higher-spec models.
For buyers on a budget who have long coveted the open-sky feel of a sunroof, the wait is effectively over.
