Tata Motors recently began production of the Nexon Electric SUV at its newly acquired Sanand facility, formerly owned by Ford India. The factory, sprawling across 460 acres and employing over 1000 staff members and technicians, is now fully operational. In line with their production expansion plans, Tata Motors aims to create 1000 more job opportunities within the next few months. This factory serves as a pivotal point for Tata Motors, as it is where the first Tata car, the Nexon.EV, will be manufactured.
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), the subsidiary responsible for this momentous occasion, officially declared the start of passenger vehicle production at the Sanand facility. The event was marked by the unveiling of the inaugural Nexon.EV is produced at this factory. Attendees included Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of TPEM, along with leaders from the Passenger and Electric Vehicle divisions. Acquired from Ford India on January 10, 2023, the Sanand facility now stands as Tata Motors' second plant in Gujarat. The other plant, also located in Sanand, was initially constructed for the Nano and now produces the Tiago hatchback.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and automation, the Sanand facility can manufacture both internal combustion engine vehicles and electric cars. Upgrades and enhancements have been implemented across various sections of the plant, including the Press, Weld, Paint, and Assembly shops. With a current workforce exceeding 1000 employees, Tata Motors plans to hire an additional 1000 individuals within the next 3 to 4 months to support their production growth objectives.
To further develop the skills of their employees, Tata Motors has made substantial investments in education, offering Diplomas, Bachelor of Engineering, and Master's Degrees to eligible personnel. The company's commitment to sustainability is also evident in the Sanand facility, featuring a 50 KW solar rooftop and ambitious plans to achieve water positivity by December 2024.
Expressing his pride in this achievement, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited & Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, stated, "Witnessing the first car roll out of the new TPEM facility in Sanand is a proud moment for us.
