Tata Curvv Hits the Sweet Spot: Stylish Coupe-SUV Sees Waiting Periods Stretch to Three Months

Tata Motors’ bold and stylish Curvv coupe-SUV, a game-changer in the Indian automotive market, is riding a wave of popularity that has seen waiting periods rise to over three months for certain powertrains. Launched with an EV powertrain in August 2024, followed by petrol and diesel variants in September, the Curvv has quickly established itself as a versatile and desirable option for consumers. According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Tata dispatched an impressive 8,218 units of the Curvv to dealerships in October alone, underscoring its growing demand.

However, the rising demand comes with a caveat: extended waiting times for customers, which vary significantly depending on the variant and powertrain.

Tata Curvv EV: Quick Deliveries, High Popularity

Among the different powertrains, the Tata Curvv EV continues to lead in availability. Dealer sources confirm that all variants of the Curvv EV are being delivered in under four weeks. This shorter waiting period is attributed to Tata’s robust distribution strategy, which ensures regular dispatches to most outlets nationwide.

The Curvv EV is offered with two battery pack options:

  1. 40.5kWh battery pack: Available in Creative, Accomplished, and Accomplished+ variants.

  2. 55kWh battery pack: Offered in Accomplished, Accomplished+ S, Empowered+, and Empowered+ A variants.

Both versions are powered by a 167hp electric motor mounted on the front axle. This motor allows the Curvv EV to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in just 8.6 seconds and achieve a top speed of 160kph. With such performance coupled with swift deliveries, the Curvv EV has become a preferred choice for eco-conscious and tech-savvy buyers.

Curvv Diesel: Moderate Waiting Periods

The Curvv diesel, available in Smart, Pure, Creative, and Accomplished trims, has a waiting period that is slightly higher but still reasonable.

  • Manual gearbox variants: Waiting periods range from slightly over one month for Pure, Creative, and Accomplished trims to two months for the entry-level Smart variant.

  • Automatic gearbox variants: Across all trims, the waiting period is consistently around two months.

Powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine generating 118hp, the Curvv diesel strikes a balance between power and efficiency, appealing to long-distance commuters and those who prefer the reliability of diesel engines.

Curvv Petrol: High Demand, Longer Wait

The petrol-powered Tata Curvv variants have seen the highest waiting periods, driven by strong consumer interest in its performance-oriented offerings.

The entry-level Curvv petrol comes equipped with a 120hp 1.2-liter turbocharged engine.

  • Manual gearbox variants: The Smart variant faces a waiting period of over three months, while Pure, Creative, and Accomplished trims are slightly better at around two months.

  • Automatic gearbox variants: Waiting periods for the automatic versions are longer, standing at approximately three months.

The premium 125hp 1.2-TGDI petrol engine is exclusively offered in Creative and Accomplished trims.

  • Manual gearbox models: These have a waiting period of under two months.

  • Automatic gearbox variants: The waiting period stretches to three months, reflecting higher demand.

Why Is the Waiting Period Increasing?

The growing popularity of the Tata Curvv can be attributed to its unique coupe-SUV design, robust performance, and wide array of options catering to diverse consumer preferences. The EV variant, in particular, has garnered significant attention as India shifts towards sustainable mobility solutions.

The slight uptick in waiting periods, particularly for the petrol and diesel variants, is likely due to supply chain constraints and higher-than-anticipated demand. Tata Motors has been working to address these challenges by ramping up production and optimizing distribution.

What Lies Ahead for Tata Curvv Buyers?

While the waiting periods for certain Curvv variants may require some patience, the robust delivery schedule for the EV variants provides relief for those looking for quicker turnarounds. Additionally, Tata Motors’ continued focus on meeting customer demand ensures that the wait is worthwhile for potential buyers.

For enthusiasts drawn to Tata’s cutting-edge design and advanced engineering, the Curvv remains an enticing option in the competitive SUV segment. Whether it's the eco-friendly EV, the efficient diesel, or the powerful petrol variant, the Curvv has something for everyone.

With its popularity showing no signs of waning, the Tata Curvv is well on its way to becoming a flagship model in Tata’s portfolio, setting new benchmarks in the Indian automotive landscape.
