SUV Week in India: Significant Changes, Recalls, and EV Achievements

Last week saw a number of significant developments in India's automotive scene, such as significant recalls for popular SUVs from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota, new teasers for Mahindra's impending XEV 9S electric SUV, and the release of new dashboard information for the upcoming Tata Sierra. As the Windsor EV reached a noteworthy sales milestone, MG hailed a noteworthy accomplishment. When taken as a whole, these trends demonstrate how rapidly the SUV and EV markets in the nation are still developing.

  • Maruti, Mahindra, Tata, and MG's major SUV news from November 17–21, 2025

  • MG Windsor's EV milestone, along with model-wide recalls and technological advancements

Major Recalls Affect Toyota and Maruti

Over 39,000 Grand Vitara vehicles have been recalled by Maruti Suzuki because of a malfunctioning fuel-level indicator and low-fuel warning light. Owners are being asked to have the instrument cluster inspected even though it has no bearing on performance or safety. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which uses the same components, has the same issue.

Mahindra's XUV700 Electric Booster & Facelift

It looks like Mahindra is giving the XUV700 a significant makeover, possibly even changing its name. Although the engine options are probably going to stay the same, the upgrade might bring greater cabin features, new LED lights, and sharper appearance.

Mahindra is also offering benefits worth up to ₹1.55 lakh to commemorate the first anniversary of its electric SUVs, the BE 6 and XEV 9e. Free home chargers, public charging credits, and other loyalty perks are included in this.

A futuristic triple-screen dashboard, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, "boss mode" chairs, a powered tailgate, and even a frunk (front boot) have all been hinted at for the future XEV 9S, a seven-seater electric vehicle.

Tata Sierra's Dashboard Is Redesigned

According to a new teaser, the highly awaited Sierra from Tata Motors will get a dual-screen dashboard in its lower and mid-spec trims. These models will not have the third passenger screen, but they will have a heads-up display instead of the three screens found in the top trim.

A Milestone for the MG Windsor EV

The Windsor EV from MG is the fastest four-wheeler EV in India to exceed 50,000 sales in less than 400 days.

It has two battery options: a larger ~52.9 kWh pack (up to ~449 km) and a smaller ~38 kWh pack (with a stated range of ~332 km).

Flexible payment options, which allow customers to purchase with full ownership or employ a "Battery-as-a-Service" (BaaS) model that lowers the upfront cost, are a major factor in its success.
