Skoda Kodiaq Bids Farewell in India, Next-Gen SUV Set for May 2025 Debut

Skoda gears up to launch the all-new Kodiaq with upgraded tech, design, and safety, replacing its discontinued flagship SUV in India.

The Skoda Kodiaq, once the crown jewel of the Czech automaker’s Indian lineup, has officially been removed from the brand’s website, signaling the end of its current generation.

With its successor already showcased at the 2025 Auto Expo, the next-gen Kodiaq is poised to hit Indian roads by May 2025. The outgoing model, priced at ₹40.99 lakh (ex-showroom), made its exit after serving as Skoda’s premium SUV offering.

Let’s unpack what’s changing and what the future holds for this popular seven-seater.

Why Did Skoda Pull the Plug on the Current Kodiaq?

The decision to discontinue the existing Kodiaq aligns with Skoda’s global strategy to phase out older models ahead of next-gen launches.

The SUV had been available solely in the top-tier Laurin & Klement (L&K) trim, powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 190 PS and 320 Nm of torque. While it earned praise for its robust build and premium features, the lack of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and evolving competition likely nudged Skoda toward a timely upgrade.

A Sneak Peek Into the 2025 Skoda Kodiaq

It was unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, the new Kodiaq retains its muscular SUV silhouette but adds fresh touches. The front sports slimmer LED headlights, a redesigned bumper with sporty air inlets, and rounded wheel arches wrapped in black cladding.

At the rear, C-shaped LED taillights connected by a sleek light bar give it a contemporary edge. Rolling on bold 20-inch alloy wheels, the SUV balances sophistication with road presence.

Interior: Sustainable Luxury Redefined

Step inside, and the cabin welcomes you with sustainable materials, a minimalist layered dashboard, and a 2-spoke steering wheel bearing the Skoda logo. The gear selector has moved to a steering-column stalk, freeing up space for a wireless charger and hidden storage.

Tech upgrades include a massive 13-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, and ventilated front seats. Skoda also emphasizes eco-consciousness, using recycled fabrics and plant-based components.

Safety First: ADAS Joins the Party

The new Kodiaq addresses its predecessor’s safety gaps by introducing advanced driver aids like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automated emergency braking.

Combined with nine airbags, hill-hold assist, and ISOFIX child seat anchors, the SUV aims to score top marks in safety.

Under the Hood: More Power, Same Thrill

The 2025 Kodiaq retains the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine but squeezes out 204 PS (up from 190 PS) while maintaining 320 Nm torque. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive (AWD), it promises smoother acceleration and better off-road capability.

While Skoda hasn’t confirmed hybrid or electric variants yet, industry whispers suggest alternative fuel options could arrive later.

Price Tag and Rivals: Premium SUV Wars Heat Up

Skoda is expected to price the new Kodiaq from ₹45 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it against heavyweights like the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, and Jeep Meridian. While the jump from ₹40.99 lakh (old model) to ₹45 lakh seems steep, the upgraded tech, safety, and design could justify the premium.

What Made the Older Kodiaq Special?

Before its discontinuation, the Kodiaq stood out with:

  • Timeless Design: Chrome-accented grille, LED fog lamps, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

  • Premium Cabin: Black-and-beige upholstery, ambient lighting, and a 12-speaker Canton audio system.

  • Solid Performance: Reliable 2.0-litre engine paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox.

However, the absence of ADAS and a single-variant strategy limited its appeal in a competitive market.

Overall, The 2025 Skoda Kodiaq isn’t just a facelift; it’s a statement. By blending sustainability, tech, and safety, Skoda aims to reclaim its spot in India’s premium SUV race. As the May 2025 launch nears, all eyes are on whether this European contender can outshine its rivals and win over Indian families craving luxury and practicality.
