Reports: Maruti Grand Vitara Crash Tested at Bharat NCAP

With an average sales of around 10,000 units per month, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is considered a success. However, Maruti has often faced criticism regarding the safety of its vehicles. To improve its safety reputation, Maruti has reportedly had the Grand Vitara crash-tested at Bharat NCAP.

Maruti Grand Vitara Bharat NCAP

The Grand Vitara, built on the Global C platform and underpins the Brezza (previously Vitara Brezza), was recently tested. The Brezza secured a 4-star rating in the Global NCAP back in 2018, although it was under older testing protocols.

Crash Test Details:

  • Frontal Impact Test

  • Side Impact Test

  • Side Pole Test

These tests suggest that the Grand Vitara could achieve at least a 4-star safety rating if not 5 stars. The side pole test, typically optional, indicates a possibility of a 5-star rating as it is conducted only upon the manufacturer's request.

Safety Features of Maruti Grand Vitara

The Grand Vitara is equipped with several advanced safety features:

  • Up to six airbags

  • 360-degree camera

  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP)

  • Hill hold assist

  • Hill descent control

  • Front seat belts with pre-tension and force limiter

  • Three-point ELR seat belts for all seats

  • ISOFIX child seat mounts

Engine Options:

  • 1.5-litre 4-cylinder mild hybrid petrol

  • 1.5-litre 3-cylinder strong hybrid

Impact on Maruti's Reputation

Maruti's move to test the Grand Vitara at Bharat NCAP demonstrates its commitment to improving safety standards. Although the official results are yet to be released, achieving a high safety rating could significantly enhance Maruti's image in terms of vehicle safety.

The Grand Vitara’s performance in these crash tests could mark a pivotal moment for Maruti Suzuki, showing their dedication to enhancing safety features and meeting higher safety standards. As the automotive industry increasingly focuses on safety, Maruti’s proactive steps could set a new benchmark for the brand.
