Mercedes-Benz Announces All-Electric C-Class and GLC SUV for 2026

Such future models as all-electric C-Class Mercedes-Benz sedan and GLC SUV are expected to revolutionize the automotive industry and are to be unveiled globally in 2026. Speaking during Mercedes-Benz’s second-quarter earnings call for 2024, the company’s CEO Ola Källenius said that the automaker had plans to finish the year with 10 pure EVs in its portfolio as it focused on its ‘core luxury’ market.

A New Era for Mercedes-Benz

The introduction of the all-electric C-Class and GLC marks a pivotal moment for Mercedes-Benz as it accelerates its transition to an all-electric future. Positioned in the 'core luxury' segment, these models will join the ranks of Mercedes’ existing luxury offerings such as the CLE and the E-Class. The C-Class and GLC electric versions are anticipated to embody Mercedes-Benz's core values of sophistication, performance, and cutting-edge technology, setting new standards in their respective segments.

Strategic Expansion of the EV Lineup

Mercedes-Benz's announcement comes amidst a broader strategy to expand its electric vehicle portfolio. The new all-electric models will cater to the growing demand for luxury EVs, a market segment that Mercedes is keen to dominate. By 2026, the C-Class and GLC will represent the latest advancements in electric mobility, incorporating state-of-the-art technology and high-performance features.

The upcoming CLA coupe sedan and the GLA and GLB SUVs, all based on the new MMA platform, will expand the brand's entry-level lineup. The all-new CLA, which was previewed as a concept at the Munich Motor Show last year, is scheduled to debut in 2025.

Mercedes-Benz is also focusing on its top-end vehicle (TEV) category, which includes models priced above ₹1.5 crore. This segment has shown remarkable growth in India, contributing over 25 percent to the brand’s total volumes in 2023. Sagree Sardien, head of Region Overseas, Mercedes-Benz Cars, noted that the TEV segment has been experiencing double-digit growth and is expected to continue this trend in 2024 and beyond.

In India, the EQS Maybach electric SUV is set to be the next significant launch, followed by the eagerly anticipated E-Class sedan. The electric G-Class SUV and the updated AMG GT are also on the horizon for the Indian market, further demonstrating Mercedes-Benz's commitment to expanding its electric and high-performance offerings.

Balancing Innovation with Tradition

Despite its aggressive push into the electric vehicle market, Mercedes-Benz remains committed to offering combustion-engined cars globally.
