Maruti e Vitara electric SUV proves range of 543 kilometres

With its larger 61kWh battery pack, Maruti Suzuki's first completely electric SUV, the e Vitara, has now been officially confirmed to offer an amazing 543km ARAI-certified range. With a 5-star Bharat NCAP certification and cutting-edge safety features, the e Vitara represents a significant advancement in the brand's electric roadmap. It was built on a specialized EV platform. With two battery options, numerous drivetrain choices, and a feature-rich cabin, the SUV seeks to deliver practicality, efficiency, and everyday utility.

  • The best-in-class ARAI-certified range of 543 km on a single charge (on a 61 kWh battery variant) is confirmed for the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.

  • The electric SUV also features a full 5-star Bharat NCAP safety certification, two battery pack options, and both 2WD and 4WD models, making it a strong challenger in India’s electric SUV category.

The e Vitara, the first completely electric SUV from Maruti Suzuki, has been officially verified with an ARAI-certified driving range of up to 543 km on its larger 61 kWh battery pack. The EV will also come in a smaller 49 kWh variant, with a lower range, allowing owners a choice depending on their usage and price.

Based on official statistics, the e Vitara is constructed on the new HEARTECT-e platform, a dedicated EV design that offers optimal packing, a flat-floor layout, and greater structural rigidity adapted for electric propulsion.

Variants, drivetrain and performance

There will be several versions of the e Vitara available. Both 2WD and 4WD (dual e-axle) versions will be offered for the 61 kWh battery variant, which supports the 543 km range claim. This will provide purchasers who need efficiency or additional traction/power with flexibility.

The larger battery pack in 2WD configuration provides strong power output appropriate for both city commuting and long-distance travel, though precise performance numbers vary.

Safety, features and EV-readiness

Safety is a significant focus for e Vitara. It has received a complete 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP, encompassing both adult and child occupant protection. Standard inclusions across variations reportedly include 7 airbags, a high-strength body shell, and a full suite of active safety aids, including ADAS (driver-assist features) for greater protection and convenience.

Inside, the cabin will offer EV-specific design advantages due to the flat-floor layout, combined with modern convenience and comfort elements that match what shoppers expect from premium SUVs.

Launch timetable and options for buying

The e Vitara is anticipated to go on sale in January 2026, with reservations scheduled to open shortly, according to the company's most recent update.

Maruti Suzuki is apparently proposing multiple ownership models for EV buyers: outside the usual purchase route, e Vitara may also be available under a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription scheme. This could allow purchasers to lease the battery rather than purchasing it immediately, a move aimed at cutting initial costs and boosting greater EV use.

Why this matters

With the e Vitara, Maruti Suzuki is making a serious push into India’s rapidly developing EV industry. It is especially tempting to Indian buyers who desire an everyday-friendly SUV without "range anxiety" because of its extended ARAI-certified range, robust safety credentials, versatile battery options, and EV-ready architecture.

As more manufacturers enter the electric SUV market, e Vitara hopes to differentiate itself by providing a well-rounded package, efficiency, practicality, safety, and comfort under a reputable brand.
