Kia is getting ready to bring a new small SUV to India, even though they already have the Sonet, which competes with cars like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Hyundai Venue. The new SUV, called the Kia Clavis, has been spotted testing in India for the first time after being seen on roads abroad.
Positioning and Features
The Kia Clavis will fit between the Sonet and the Seltos in Kia's lineup. It's aimed at people who want a lifestyle SUV but don't necessarily need all-wheel drive. The Clavis will be introduced first with a petrol engine, and later an electric version might come out.
Design
Even though the test car is covered in camouflage, we can still see that it has a boxy shape. It has a flat roof with roof rails, and its front and back are pretty straight. The wheels look cool, kind of like the ones on the new Kia Carnival MPV. Even though it's small, it's designed to have more space inside than the Sonet, with bigger windows to make it feel roomier.
Power
The Clavis will come with both petrol and electric engines. They'll both be based on the same platform, and there might even be a hybrid version later on. But no matter which version you get, it will be front-wheel drive only. We'll have to wait to find out more about the engines and power.
When to Expect It
The petrol Clavis should be shown in India by the end of this year and should be available to buy in early 2025. The electric version might come out about six months after that. Since it's positioned above the Sonet, the Clavis will probably cost a bit more, starting at around Rs 7.99 lakh.
In short, Kia is bringing a new SUV to India that's a bit bigger and fancier than the Sonet. It's still in testing, but we can expect to see it on the roads in the near future.
