India’s 2 Upcoming Compact Electric SUVs Ready to Shock

As India accelerates toward an electric future, 2 compact electric SUVs from leading brands promise compelling range, features, and pricing to win over everyday drivers seeking efficient, eco-friendly mobility.

India’s EV wave is swelling, and compact electric SUVs are at the forefront, balancing practicality and sustainability for Indian roads.

With rising fuel costs and growing environmental awareness, buyers are awaiting new electric offerings.

Here, we explore soon-to-launch compact electric SUVs—Maruti Suzuki eVX and Toyota Urban EV—detailing their expected specs, launch timelines, and appeal in simple, relatable terms.

Tata Curvv EV

Tata’s Curvv EV aims to blend sporty design with electric efficiency. Based on the Acti.ev platform, it features a closed front grille with LED DRLs, aerodynamic alloy wheels, and a coupe-like roofline.

Inside, expect dual large screens (infotainment and digital cluster), ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, and EV-specific controls.

Battery capacity is likely around 45–50 kWh, delivering 500–550 km (ARAI) range, with front-wheel-drive as standard and possible all-wheel-drive variants.

Launch was initially slated mid-2024 but may have shifted; current indications point to a rollout in late 2024 or early 2025, with pricing in the ₹20–25 lakh bracket (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki eVX

Maruti Suzuki’s first electric SUV, the eVX, is keenly anticipated for its brand reliability and value. Expected dimensions hover around 4.3 meters in length.

It reportedly targets a real-world range of 400–550 km per charge. Interiors should be spacious and tech-rich, following Maruti’s focus on user-friendly layouts. Launch is anticipated in early to mid-2025, priced roughly between ₹20–25 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hyundai Creta EV

Hyundai’s Creta EV adapts the popular Creta design into an electric avatar, retaining its familiar silhouette while adding EV touches like a closed grille, aerodynamic wheels, and updated lighting signatures . It’s expected to use a larger battery pack than its ICE sibling, aiming for 400–500 km range, fast-charging support, and features such as ADAS, panoramic sunroof, and connected car capabilities. Launch is projected for late 2025, with an estimated price around ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom).

Toyota Urban EV

Toyota’s Urban EV (sometimes referred to as the Urban Electric SUV) is a sibling to Maruti’s eVX under their collaboration. Based on Toyota’s skateboard platform, it may feature a 60 kWh battery, a dual-motor AWD variant, and a claimed range near 550 km.

Styling follows Toyota’s minimalist yet futuristic language with dual integrated displays inside, level 2 ADAS, terrain modes, and comfort features like ventilated seats and 360° cameras. Expected launch in the second half of 2025, pricing could align around ₹20–25 lakh (ex-showroom).

In simple words, these compact electric SUVs reflect India’s shift toward greener mobility, offering practical range, tech features, and brand trust without overwhelming buyers. While exact launch dates may adjust, all are expected by 2025, competing fiercely in the ₹20–25 lakh price bracket.

For everyday users, they promise simpler charging routines, lower running costs, and a modern driving experience. As these models arrive, Indian roads will see a significant uptick in accessible EV options, paving the way for wider adoption and a cleaner future.
