Hyundai Creta Ev To Be Underpinned By Modified K2 Platform

Hyundai Creta EV to Be Underpinned by Modified K2 Platform

Hyundai India is making a strategic move to re-enter the mid-size electric SUV segment with a new all-electric variant of its best-selling Creta. Following the mixed reception of the Kona Electric, Hyundai is determined to capture the market with the Creta EV, set to debut by the end of 2024 and launch in January 2025.

Creta EV: Built on the K2 Platform

Rather than developing an entirely new platform or utilizing the one from the Kona, Hyundai has chosen to base the Creta EV on a modified version of the existing K2 platform. This decision is likely aimed at maintaining cost efficiency and allowing for the sharing of parts and components between the internal combustion engine (ICE) Creta and the upcoming electric version.

Powertrain and Specifications

While specific details about the Creta EV's powertrain and battery options remain undisclosed, it is anticipated that Hyundai may offer the vehicle with two battery pack options, potentially delivering a driving range of up to 500km. This would position the Creta EV competitively in a segment where range and affordability are key factors.

Competition

The Creta EV will enter a growing market of electric SUVs, competing with models such as the Tata Curvv EV, which offers a range of 502 km to 585 km depending on the battery size, the Mahindra XUV400, and the BYD Atto 3. Additionally, Suzuki’s first all-electric vehicle, the eVX, is expected to debut at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, adding to the competition.

As Hyundai prepares to launch the Creta EV, it will be interesting to see how the modified K2 platform and shared components strategy impact the vehicle's market reception.

Stay tuned for more updates as Hyundai reveals further details about the Creta EV ahead of its official launch.
