Honda Cars India's total wholesales fell about 14 percent year-on-year in September 2026, to 6,955 units from 8,096 units a year ago, with domestic sales down approx 16 percent and exports down 11 percent.
Despite the monthly dip, Honda's domestic sales for the July to September quarter grew about 20 percent year-on-year, suggesting September was more of a rough patch than a slide.
Honda Cars India closed out September 2026 with total wholesales of 6,955 units, down from 8,296 units in the same month last year. It's not a dramatic collapse, but it's a clear step back, and the numbers show where the pressure is actually coming from.
Domestic sales took the bigger hit
Honda sold 4,465 units in India in September, down roughly 16 percent from 5,303 units a year ago, and also down from the 5,385 units it managed in August. That's a dip on both counts, year-on-year and month-on-month, in the same breath.
Exports fared a little better by comparison, slipping 11 percent to 2,490 units from 2,793 the previous September.
| Honda Cars India | Sep 2026 | Sep 2025 | YoY change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domestic | 4,465 | 5,303 | -15.8% |
| Exports | 2,490 | 2,793 | -10.8% |
| Total | 6,955 | 8,096 | -14.1% |
The quarter looks steadier than the month
Zoom out to July, August and September combined, and the picture softens. Honda's domestic sales for the quarter grew to 15,864 units, up roughly 20 percent over the same period last year.
Exports pulled the overall figure down, falling around 25 percent for the quarter, but total sales still edged marginally ahead of last year. September's dip looks more like a rough patch inside an improving quarter than a sign of a deeper slide.
Two models are carrying the load, with a third on the way
Kunal Behl, Vice-President, Marketing & Sales at Honda Cars India, pointed to what's working. "We are pleased to see positive sales momentum for the Honda City and Honda Amaze during the month," he said. Both models appear to be anchoring Honda's domestic numbers even as the overall total fell.
He also flagged what's coming next. "We are also gearing up for the launch of the new Elevate, which will further strengthen our SUV offering with a refreshed and enhanced package," Behl added. The updated Elevate lands right as the festive season, typically the strongest sales window of the year for Indian carmakers, gets underway.
Honda is heading into its busiest stretch with two models already pulling their weight and a refreshed SUV about to join them. Whether that's enough to turn September's dip into a one-off should become clearer once October and November numbers, covering the heart of the festive season, come in.
