Maruti Suzuki Wagon -R

Fuel efficiency is an important factor when choosing a vehicle, as it directly impacts both your pocket and the environment. In this comparison, let's focus on the fuel efficiency of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR and other brands in the same category.

How Fuel Efficient is WagonR?

Maruti Suzuki WagonR is a compact hatchback in the Indian market for over two decades. It is known for its spacious cabin, practical features, and reliable performance. It also offers three engine options: a 1.0-litre petrol, a 1.2-litre petrol, and a 1.0-litre CNG engine. The petrol engines come with manual and automatic (AGS) transmission options, while the CNG engine only has a manual transmission.

The WagonR has impressive fuel efficiency numbers. According to the ARAI-certified mileage numbers, the 1.0-litre petrol engine delivers 24.35 km/l for the manual and 25.19 km/l for the AGS variants. The 1.2-litre petrol engine delivers 23.56 km/l for the manual and 24.43 km/l for the AGS variants. The 1.0-litre CNG engine delivers a whopping 34.05 km/kg².

What about the Competition?

Let's compare the WagonR with four similar hatchbacks: Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago, Renault Kwid, and Datsun Go.

Hyundai Santro

Hyundai Santro comes with a 1.1-litre petrol engine that gives 69 PS of power and 99 Nm of torque. It also has a CNG option that produces 59 PS of power and 84 Nm of torque. The Santro has decent fuel efficiency figures that are slightly less than the WagonR's. According to the ARAI-certified mileage figures, the petrol engine delivers 20 km/l for both the manual and AMT variants, while the CNG engine delivers 30 km/kg.

Tata Tiago

The Tiago has a good fuel efficiency figure that is comparable to the WagonR's. It's a sporty and premium hatchback that comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine. It produces 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque.

Tiago also has a CNG option that produces 70 PS of power and 95 Nm of torque. The petrol engine comes with both manual and AMT transmission options, while the CNG engine comes only with a manual transmission.

According to the ARAI-certified mileage figures, the petrol engine delivers 23 km/l for both the manual and AMT variants, while the CNG engine delivers 33 km/kg.

Renault Kwid

Renault Kwid is a funky and affordable hatchback that comes with two petrol engine options: a 0.8-litre engine that produces 54 PS of power and 72 Nm of torque and a 1.0-litre engine that produces 68 PS of power and 91 Nm of torque. Both engines come with both manual and AMT transmission options.

The Kwid has impressive fuel efficiency, higher than the WagonR. The 0.8-litre engine achieves 25 km/l for both manual and AMT variants, while the 1.0-litre engine delivers 24 km/l for both manual and AMT variants.

Datsun Go

Datsun Go is a simple and spacious hatchback that comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine. The Go has a moderate fuel efficiency figure lower than the WagonR's. According to the ARAI-certified mileage figures, the petrol engine delivers 19 km/l for the manual variant and 20 km/l for the CVT variant.
