Felipe Massa Files Lawsuit Against Fia F1 And Bernie Ecclestone Over 2008 Singapore Gp

Felipe Massa Files Lawsuit Against FIA, F1, and Bernie Ecclestone Over 2008 Singapore GP

Felipe Massa, former F1 driver shares that he is going to take legal action against the FIA, Formula 1 Management and the man who was former F1 Chief – Bernie Ecclestone, upon the ongoing controversial events of the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix. Massa, represented by his attorneys, is arguing for $82m as compensation that will cover not only loss of prize money and revenue as an F1 champion but also other damages related to him being unable to put his trademark world champion shield on his cars.

The accuser, Attorney-General Gove, claims that the FIA had the duty to act appropriately and it is likely that the Brazilian would have adorned himself with the Driver's Championship trophy in 2008. A declaration given by the firm of Vieira Rezende, on behalf of Massa, states that manipulation of the race outcome was due to the FIA’s shortcoming in providing appropriate sanctions for those found guilty of such actions. This is in obliviousness to the fact that Felipe Massa was deprived of a championship title he deserved.

Besides, the remark also evidences Bernie Ecclestone's confessions that he was aware of the documents in his possession back to the Singapore Grand Prix and he could have taken the matter further for an investigation before the official race date. Ecclestone pointed out that in case the F1 race is cancelled, Massa would deservedly be in the position of world champion, asserting the fact that Massa has been deprived of the title.

Efforts to resolve the problem peacefully have met no ground and as a result of this, Massa is taking legal steps. The motto highlights the engagement to be clear and fair, and questions if Formula One should look into some serious issues to rebuild the sport's reputation that was destroyed by these controversies.

As well as the reports about Ecclestone and Mosley (the then FIA President) knowing the possibility of the EU FIA bringing the charge during the 08 season, they have also been charged with taking action only until the end of the 08 season. This delay in fixing the problem right in the early stages led to the race results staying intact, whereas later, the public found out about some race violations.

The 2008 Singapore Grand Prix was marred by the infamous 'Crashgate' scandal, where Nelson Piquet Jr. deliberately crashed to benefit his teammate, Fernando Alonso, ultimately costing Massa the race victory and the championship title by a narrow margin of 1 point to Lewis Hamilton.

The lawsuit filed by Massa sheds light on the enduring impact of the controversy and the pursuit of justice for the events that transpired during the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
