In a milestone achievement, BMW Group set a new record for its annual sales in India in 2023, surpassing all three brands - BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad. The luxury carmaker company delivered an impressive 14,172 vehicles throughout the year, comprising 13,303 units under the BMW brand, 869 units from MINI, and 8,768 motorcycles under BMW Motorrad. The fourth quarter of 2023 alone marked the highest-ever sales in the same calendar year.
Impressive Growth Across Segments:
BMW witnessed an outstanding 18% annual growth in the car segment, with flagship models like the 7 Series sedan, i7, X7, and iX contributing significantly to an 88% growth from the previous year. SUVs played a pivotal role, constituting 54% of the annual sales volume and achieving a remarkable 24% growth. The new X1 emerged as the top-selling Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) with a 20% share in overall sales, while the X7 secured the second-highest deliveries. The new BMW 3 Series claimed the top spot as the highest-selling sedan, holding a 20% share in sales.
In the luxury electric vehicle (EV) space, BMW became the leader with a three-fold growth, selling a total of 1,474 units. The BMW iX, a flagship electric vehicle, held the position of the largest-selling luxury EV in India. The BMW i4, iX1, and i7, along with the MINI Cooper SE, contributed to BMW's dominance in the luxury EV segment.
Leadership in EV Segment:
Vikram Pawah, President, of BMW Group India, expressed pride in the company's leadership in the electric luxury car segment for the second consecutive year. By blending driving pleasure with zero emissions, BMW's luxurious EV offerings resonated with a growing clientele embracing a progressive and sustainable mindset.
MINI and BMW Motorrad Success:
MINI India experienced a commendable 22% growth, selling 869 units in 2023. The locally produced MINI Countryman emerged as the most popular model, claiming a dominant 55% share. The electric MINI 3-Door Cooper SE witnessed more than a doubling of sales, becoming the second-highest-selling MINI model at 28%.
The two-wheeler division, BMW Motorrad achieved a 20% growth by selling 8,768 units in India in 2023. Notably, the entry-level G 310 models recorded a remarkable 19% growth, maintaining an 88% share in overall sales. The core bikes, available as completely built-up units, saw a remarkable growth of 33%, with flagship models like the GS adventure and RR sports segment leading the way.
