Before its impending launch, the Tata Harrier Petrol 1.5 Hyperion was spotted at a dealer

Tata Motors is preparing to introduce the eagerly awaited gasoline-powered Harrier, a significant change for the SUV that has only been available with a diesel engine thus far. The business is prepared to broaden the Harrier lineup to cater to a wider population, as evidenced by the recently spotted 1.5-liter Hyperion turbo-petrol model. The petrol Harrier seeks to bolster Tata's position in the midsize SUV market with its competitive positioning, promising performance metrics, and recognizable premium amenities.

  • On the Harrier seen at the dealership, a new 1.5-liter Hyperion gasoline engine has been confirmed.

  • A gasoline version with a recognizable appearance and affordable prices is probably going to be available in stores soon.

After years of just providing diesel powertrains, Tata Motors is prepared to launch a petrol version of the Harrier, one of its main SUVs in India. Ahead of its formal market debut, a production-ready 1.5-liter gasoline Harrier with the company's new "Hyperion" engine has been spotted at a dealership, suggesting that the introduction is soon.

Tata's in-house 1.5-liter four-cylinder direct-injection turbo-petrol powertrain is confirmed by the dealer unit's proud display of the Hyperion badging on its engine cover. This engine has been in development for more than five years and was first displayed at an auto show in 2023. It generates about 170 PS and 280 Nm of torque.

What This Signifies for the Lineup of Harriers

For a very long time, only diesel engines were available for the Harrier and its brother, the Safari. This made them less appealing to consumers who reside in places where the use of diesel is prohibited or less common, or who prefer gasoline-powered SUVs.

By including a petrol option, Tata Motors hopes to increase its client base and take on competitors like the Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector, all of which have petrol powertrains.

Although it's unclear if a manual gearbox will be available for this engine, the gasoline Harrier observed at the dealership seems to have an automated transmission. The Hyperion engine has been matched with both manual and automatic gearboxes in a few Tata cars, but confirmation for the Harrier and Safari petrol versions is still coming.

Style and Features

The petrol Harrier's appearance is essentially the same as that of the contemporary diesel variants. The well-known, daring SUV design is carried over, complete with distinctive LED lighting, linked tail lamps, and robust body lines. The cozy and technologically advanced interior design of the current Harrier models is anticipated to be maintained.

Cost and Availability

Although the pricing and launch date of the petrol Harrier have not been formally disclosed by Tata Motors, cars arriving at dealerships usually indicate a debut within a few weeks. According to preliminary data, the petrol versions of the Harrier may be less expensive than comparable diesel models, opening it up to a larger market.
