The nation's top automaker, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., plans to start producing the upcoming “ Jimny 5-door SUV in April 2023. Together with the current Jimny 3-door model, the 5-door variant will be produced at the company's factory in Gujarat, India.
The Jimny has gained popularity all over the world as a result of its outstanding off-road ability and durable construction. From its initial release in Japan in 1970, it has developed a reputation as a dependable and durable off-roader. Due to the increased demand for SUVs in recent years, Maruti Suzuki decided to introduce Jimny to the Indian market.
Maruti plans to start making the Jimny in April with a goal of producing 1 lakh vehicles annually, of which about 66% will be put aside for domestic sales and the remaining 33% for exports. Every month, Maruti hopes to dedicate 7,000 units to the Indian market. Maruti is likely to prioritise the production of the top-spec Alpha trim out of the four available variations, given that there have already been over 18,000 bookings.
The 1.5-litre petrol engine in Maruti's Zeta and Alpha Jimny models produces 134.2 Nm at 4,000 rpm and 103 BHP at 6,000 rpm. It will be coupled with Suzuki's AllGrip Pro all-wheel drive technology and a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. In India, the Jimny is anticipated to compete with the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha and has already garnered over 18,000 reservations. It is estimated to cost roughly Rs. 12 lakhs(ex-showroom).
The Jimny 5-door SUV will begin production in India by Maruti Suzuki in April 2023. It is believed that the launch of the Jimny 5-door SUV will solidify Maruti Suzuki's position in India's fiercely competitive SUV sector and meet the growing demand for small SUVs and off-road vehicles there.
